Disney's ambitious Marvel expansion is facing renewed criticism.
Disneyland Resort has undergone major changes over the past decade, with several classic attractions making way for newer franchises. One of its biggest expansions introduced an entire land dedicated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers Campus opened at Disney California Adventure Park in June 2021, following delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It replaced A Bug's Land, which closed in September 2018 after entertaining guests for 16 years.
Designed as a superhero training facility, Avengers Campus features WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, Pym Test Kitchen, and numerous Marvel character encounters.
However, five years after its grand opening, some Disneyland guests are calling Avengers Campus one of Disney's biggest disappointments.
Disneyland Guests Tear Apart Avengers Campus
In a recent Reddit discussion, one Disneyland visitor described Avengers Campus as “the worst land in all of California Adventure, maybe even the whole resort.”

Their biggest complaint was the lack of attractions and the area's relatively plain appearance.
“When I heard Bug's Land was closing, I was excited, thinking Disney can finally replace that baby land with something cooler,” they wrote. “Then you get to Avengers Campus and it's pretty mediocre.”
Others agreed, with one guest calling Avengers Campus “one of the worst lands at any Disney property.”
Another revealed that they and their partner have nicknamed the area “Avengers Business Park,” referencing its industrial architecture and concrete walkways.
Several visitors compared Avengers Campus unfavorably to neighboring Cars Land, which recreates Radiator Springs from Pixar's Cars (2006).
“I think the fact that it is right next to Cars Land makes it even worse,” one guest wrote. “You are IN Radiator Springs! And then you walk into … a big plaza of concrete.”

The lack of shade was another recurring complaint. Unlike A Bug's Land, which featured oversized plants and sheltered spaces, Avengers Campus has relatively few trees.
“It's disgustingly hot in the heat because there are no trees/shade,” one guest complained. “I really miss the relief that Bug's Land provided during the hotter parts of the year and just the quaint peace that it had.”
Some fans also criticized Disney's decision to reduce the land's entertainment lineup.
Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts ended in 2024, while Avengers Assemble!, a rooftop stunt show featuring Marvel superheroes, closed permanently in 2025.
“The land lacks character, especially now that the superheroes aren't out as much as they used to be,” one visitor wrote.
Disney Confirms Major Avengers Campus Expansion
Despite the criticism, Disney has no plans to abandon Avengers Campus.
Instead, the company is doubling its size with two new attractions scheduled to open in 2028.

Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests across the multiverse to battle King Thanos, visiting locations including Wakanda, Asgard, and New York City. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Anthony Mackie will reprise their respective Marvel roles.
The second attraction, Stark Flight Lab, will feature two-person pods lifted and spun by giant robotic arms. Downey Jr., Mackie, and Brie Larson will appear in the experience.
Disney confirmed additional details at D23 in September 2026, including Iman Vellani's return as Ms. Marvel for Avengers Infinity Defense. Construction is already underway, while the walkway connecting Avengers Campus and Cars Land has reopened with new restroom facilities.
The expansion will increase the number of attractions from two to four, potentially addressing one of guests' biggest complaints.
Whether it changes their opinions of the land itself remains to be seen.
Has Avengers Campus lived up to your expectations?
