Disneyland California Announces Demolition of Three Park Locations

Disneyland Resort has received municipal approval to demolish three structures in Downtown Disney, marking a significant step forward in bringing Porto's Bakery to the Anaheim entertainment complex. The project will eliminate a shuttered restaurant space and two ticket booth buildings.

Anaheim city records show that officials approved three demolition requests on December 8, each targeting a different structure within the Downtown Disney shopping and dining area. Disneyland Resort submitted the applications in April 2025 under permit numbers BLD2025-01762, BLD2025-01763, and BLD2025-01764. All three authorizations remain active until December 8, 2026.

The largest structure slated for removal is the former La Brea Bakery building, which encompasses 2,610 square feet of space. Demolition specifications outlined in permit 01762 require the complete removal of the building, including the extraction of the foundation and capping of utility services.

Two additional structures—ticket booths designated as #7 and #8 in official Disney documentation—will also be razed under permits 01763 and 01764. Both ticketing facilities measure 865 square feet and are subject to the same comprehensive demolition protocol, which includes utility capping, structural removal, and foundation elimination.

The La Brea Bakery location ceased operations in 2023. Following its closure, the Quick Service Earl of Sandwich temporarily took over the space. The restaurant later pivoted to a Table Service format under the name Earl of Sandwich Tavern before ultimately closing to accommodate future development.

Porto's Bakery at Disneyland Resort

Southern California bakery chain Porto's has been linked to this Downtown Disney site since 2022, when Disneyland Resort first revealed plans to bring the family-owned business to the property. The announcement excited regional residents already familiar with Porto's six existing locations, which serve Cuban-style baked goods ranging from savory empanadas and cheese rolls to sweet treats, such as the popular Milk & Berries cake.

Rosa Porto founded the business from her home kitchen before building it into a beloved local institution. After the 2022 announcement, details about the project went silent for two years. In 2024, Porto's Bakery representatives confirmed the Downtown Disney location was still moving forward. However, the original 2025 opening target will not be met.

Porto's Bakery shared fresh concept art for the Downtown Disney storefront in early December, accompanied by confirmation that construction work had officially begun. Despite this progress, neither Disneyland Resort nor the Porto family has announced a new projected opening date for the bakery location. Guests planning visits to Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, or Downtown Disney should anticipate construction activity in the area as demolition and subsequent building work proceed.
