Guests walking through the front gates of Disneyland Park are once again greeted by a fully reopened Newsstand kiosk, following several weeks of construction that transformed the small shop at the entrance to the original Southern California Disney park without much fanfare.
A Quiet Closure Finally Ends
The kiosk first disappeared behind construction barriers on or before August 18, when Disneyland Park guests discovered it wrapped in scaffolding, scrim fabric, and construction walls. That closure stretched on for weeks before finally coming to a close on Monday.
WDWNT reported that the Newsstand reopened to guests on September 21, sharing photos of the refreshed kiosk situated just inside the park's entrance gate, on the left-hand side as guests walk in.
What Makes the Newsstand Special
Though modest in size compared to other Main Street, U.S.A. shops, the Newsstand plays an important role for guests seeking classic Disney Park essentials, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears, Disney Pin Trading lanyards, bubble wands, and plush toys.
Cast members speaking with WDWNT confirmed the extensive nature of the refurbishment, which included a new roof, a fresh coat of paint, and the addition of corner guards along the wooden counter's edges. Those guards serve a practical safety purpose, helping protect guests — especially young children — from injury if they bump into the counter's previously sharp corners. Even with all these updates, the Newsstand's overall look remains largely familiar, simply refreshed rather than reimagined.
Disney Maintains Its Usual Silence
True to form, Disneyland Resort never publicly acknowledged the kiosk's extended closure or detailed its construction plans beforehand. This lack of commentary is typical of the resort for smaller projects that don't require closures of major attractions or dining locations.
