Say goodbye to the bag check backup—well, at least if you're staying at Disney’s Grand Californian. Over at one of Disneyland Resort’s most prestigious hotels, guests are now getting an exclusive perk that may make every other entrance point feel like a traffic jam: a dedicated “Guests Without Bags” security line.

This new split in security process was spotted and shared by Matt (@DisneyScoopGuy) on X, who snapped a photo of the signage in action. The sign? Simple and direct: “Guests Without Bags”—with a clear arrow pointing to a separate, faster-moving lane.
If the Grand Californian Hotel can have a “guests without bags” line then the other security checkpoints at the Disneyland Resort deserve one too! pic.twitter.com/NG3j6IYCjv

The “No Bags” Lane is Real—and It’s Fast
While this may seem like a small change, if you’ve ever entered Disneyland Resort during peak hours, you know that security lines can feel like the first ride of the day… and not in a good way. Bag check is mandatory at every entry point, and it’s a slow-moving process that adds time (and sometimes stress) to your park day. And unlike Disney World, where you walk through security scanners and are only stopped if something pings, Disneyland security is still very much in the hands-on era.
Guests coming through the Grand Californian entrance—often a favorite for direct access to Disney California Adventure—can now skip the usual delays if they’re traveling light. Just imagine: you packed smart, your phone and wallet are in your pocket, and instead of joining the long line of families with backpacks and strollers, you breeze through in a matter of seconds.
That’s the dream. And now it’s reality—for some.
Why This Matters: Disneyland’s Security Bottleneck Woes

Let’s not sugarcoat it—Disneyland Resort has a bit of a reputation when it comes to security waits. Guests regularly take to social media to complain about long lines outside the Esplanade, especially at peak times (hello, rope drop). There’s also often confusion about which entry points are faster, with Toy Story lot vs. Mickey & Friends sparking hot debates in fan forums.
A dedicated “no bags” lane could ease that pressure—if it were adopted resort-wide. Many frequent guests argue that Disneyland’s current approach to security is outdated and in need of modernization. A faster track for guests without bags is a low-effort, high-reward solution that helps reduce congestion and gets guests into the magic more quickly.
Will Other Entrances Follow?
So far, this special line is only available at the Grand Californian—but the concept could easily be applied elsewhere. Other major entry points like Harbor Blvd., the Downtown Disney side, and the parking structure tram area see far heavier traffic than the Grand Californian entrance, and a “no bags” option there could make a big difference.
Of course, there are logistical hurdles. Disneyland’s footprint is tighter than Walt Disney World’s, and they may not have the same space flexibility. But even a temporary stanchion setup, especially during the morning rush, could cut down wait times and give guests a smoother start to their day.
Not a Guest? Not a Problem—Yet

Keep in mind: the Grand Californian entry is technically reserved for hotel guests or those with dining reservations. But even if you can’t access this lane yourself, the existence of this small tweak in process speaks volumes. It shows that Disneyland is capable of responding to guest flow issues—and that simplifying security is on the table.
Now, whether or not this becomes a resort-wide practice remains to be seen. But judging from the guest buzz online? People are paying attention. And if enough noise is made, this trial could turn into a trend.
