Last week, a TikTok showing a bizarre and slightly humorous breakdown of Disneyland Park’s Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin ride went viral. The video shows a Disneyland Resort guest and their party climbing out of a broken-down ride vehicle and searching for their friends, who were trapped in another part of the attraction. But the video reveals that things weren’t quite as dramatic as they appeared.
Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin has been a staple of Disneyland’s Mickey’s Toontown since 1994. In 2021, before the 2022-2023 reimagining of Mickey’s Toontown, Walt Disney Imagineers reimagined some of its Jessica Rabbit animatronics from damsels-in-distress into independent female detectives. The decades-old ride was the newest in Mickey’s Toontown until Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway was introduced in 2023.
The Breakdown Captured on TikTok
Disneyland Resort guest and TikTok user @shannanitalianmom2 claims they and their party “walked all around inside” the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin ride after it broke down. As they explored the ride, they went looking for their friends, who had become “locked in by those safety bars” in another vehicle.
“They just sitting their in their broke down cars, locked in by those safety bars,” the guest wrote, adding that “seeing them just sitting there really tickled me.”

While the video’s caption might have made it seem like guests were “escaping” the ride on their own, a closer look reveals the reality of the situation. The video, in fact, shows a Disney cast member guiding guests through the ride tracks and past nearby props, suggesting that the situation was handled in a controlled manner. It was a standard evacuation, not an escape.
As for the attraction, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin was back up and running shortly after the incident, per Disneyland Resort’s usual protocols. The incident didn’t seem to cause any lasting damage, and the ride reopened without further delays.
How Disneyland Handles Ride Breakdowns
When rides experience technical difficulties, Disney cast members are trained to safely evacuate guests, one vehicle at a time. By keeping guests restrained in their vehicles until it is safe to evacuate, Disney ensures that everyone remains secure and that no damage is done to the attraction’s intricate structure.
If you find yourself stuck on a Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park ride, remain seated, do not tamper with safety restraints, and await instructions from Disney cast members.
