Disney World Announces Partial Shutdown of Hotel Operations, Effective May 27

Two overlapping construction projects have launched simultaneously at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort, and guests booked at the Value Walt Disney World Resort hotel between now and early 2027 need to know what they're walking into.

Donald's Double Feature, the merchandise location that anchors the main lobby at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort, began a refurbishment on May 27. Walt Disney World Resort‘s official website acknowledges the project and notes that while the gift shop will technically remain open, guests should expect to “see and hear construction in the area” throughout the process.

What that translates to on the ground is reduced access and a thinner merchandise selection for the duration. Over a year ago, a similar refurbishment of the gift shop was completed at Disney's Pop Century Resort. That project unfolded in phases, leaving only half the store operational at times and significantly reducing the available souvenir options. Given that both properties are Value Resorts with nearly identical lobby layouts and merchandise footprints, Disney's All-Star Movies Resort is likely to follow the same phased approach.

The World Premiere Food Court and hotel check-in desk, which share the same building as Donald's Double Feature, are both expected to continue operating normally throughout the construction period. Walt Disney World Resort has pegged late August 2026 as the completion target for the gift shop renovation, though no specific date has been committed to, and no information has been shared about what the refreshed space will look like when it reopens.

Guest Rooms Are Being Renovated, Too

The gift shop project isn't the only construction underway at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort. A phased guest room renovation is underway across the hotel, transforming rooms in sections to allow the resort to continue honoring existing reservations without displacing Central Florida Disney Park guests.

That project is expected to wrap up in January 2027. Walt Disney World Resort schedules room renovation work during daytime hours as a standard practice — when the majority of hotel guests are typically at the theme parks or Disney Springs — but guests spending time at the pool or elsewhere on resort grounds during the day may still encounter noise and visible construction activity depending on which section of the hotel is actively being worked on.

Anyone with specific questions about how either project might affect their stay should stop by the Front Desk, where Disney cast members can provide the most current information about what to expect during that particular visit.
