Walt Disney World Resort is no stranger to rotating refurbishments. With so many parks, attractions, and experiences to maintain, there’s always something being refreshed to keep things looking and feeling new. Still, closures can leave guests scrambling to adjust their vacation itineraries—especially when they involve one of Disney’s only water parks. As of September 8, 2025, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is no longer available, leaving only one option for guests hoping to cool off during their Central Florida vacation.

This past summer was particularly special for Disney Park guests.. For the first time since 2019, both Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park operated simultaneously. For years, Walt Disney World Resort has alternated the refurbishments, keeping one water park closed while the other remains open. From May 21 through September 7, 2025, guests were treated to a rare sight: both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon welcoming swimmers, sunbathers, and thrill-seekers at the same time.

Disney Resort hotel guests, who enjoy complimentary water park entry on check-in day, had the unique opportunity to take advantage of both parks during their stay. Families that might have once skipped a water park day often found themselves diving into the experience, eager not to miss the chance of having both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon available for free.
That all changed on September 8, when Disney’s Blizzard Beach officially closed for refurbishment. Walt Disney World Resort confirmed the closure with an update on its website that reads:
“Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is currently unavailable. During this time, we encourage you to visit Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park.”

The announcement marks the end of Blizzard Beach’s summer run, and while Disney has not provided a reopening date, history gives guests a good idea of what to expect. Traditionally, Blizzard Beach reopens when Typhoon Lagoon closes for its own refurbishment. This pattern ensures that at least one water park remains open year-round, though rarely do both operate together outside of peak summer months.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park first opened in 1995. It became the resort’s third water park, joining Typhoon Lagoon, which debuted in 1989, and River Country, which ultimately closed permanently in 2001.

Walt Disney World Resort has yet to announce exactly when Blizzard Beach will reopen. With the arrival of cooler weather in Central Florida, it’s unlikely both water parks will be operational at the same time again this year. Instead, guests can expect Typhoon Lagoon to remain open until it, too, undergoes its seasonal refurbishment.
