Disney's Hollywood Studios is the latest park to receive Walt Disney World Resort's updated trash can design, though this time around, the new additions have arrived without the themed touches guests have come to expect elsewhere.
An Ongoing Rollout Across the Resort
For several months now, Walt Disney World Resort has been steadily replacing older flat-top trash cans throughout its theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs with a newer, more modern design. These updated bins feature foot pedals for hygienic operation and internal compactors that reduce the frequency with which custodial cast members need to swap out bags.
The rollout hasn't been entirely smooth, however. Outdoor versions of the new bins are topped with solar panels beneath a rounded cover, eliminating the flat surface Disney Park guests previously relied on. That change caused noticeable frustration at EPCOT, where guests often used the old flat-top cans as makeshift tables during busy festival seasons.
Beyond that, the new design proved more confusing to use than Disney had initially anticipated, prompting the company to release an instructional video that teaches both guests and cast members how to properly dispose of trash and recyclables using the updated bins.
Despite these hiccups, Disney has continued rolling out the new trash cans across its properties, with the latest installations now appearing at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
New Bins Arrive Without Themed Details
WDWNT reported on September 22 that generic silver versions of the updated trash cans had shown up throughout Disney's Hollywood Studios. Unlike many of the resort's other recent installations, these new bins skip location-specific theming entirely. Walt Disney World Resort may eventually add decorative elements or swap these units out for themed versions, but for now, guests at the park are left with plain silver-and-black receptacles.
These untethered silver bins have been spotted in several spots throughout the park, including outside the Mickey Shorts Theater along Echo Lake, near BaseLine Tap House on Grand Avenue, outside Oasis Canteen (also along Echo Lake), at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular attraction, along the walkway connecting Pixar Plaza to Toy Story Land, and outside The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure in the recently reimagined Animation Courtyard.
Disney has already installed themed versions of these updated trash cans elsewhere throughout Disney's Hollywood Studios, including locations near the Chinese Theatre and the Magic of Disney Animation attraction. Why these newest additions arrived without matching theming remains unclear.
