Recently, Disney World made the decision to close the TRON Identity Program indefinitely, a program that allowed guests to create custom TRON action figures resembling themselves. Cast members confirmed that the experience, which was located near the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction, is no longer available for visitors.
The TRON Identity Program was accessible from a gift shop adjacent to the exit of Space Mountain. This strategic location was designed to attract guests eager to explore new digital experiences tied to the TRON saga. The program featured a unique setup where visitors could enter the “Grid Digitization Portal,” allowing them to transform into a TRON character through advanced technology.
The technology behind the TRON Identity Program enabled guests to see their likenesses as digital figures, offering a memorable takeaway from their time at Disney World. This program utilized methods similar to those used in other Disney parks, such as the ability to create personalized Na’vi action figures at Pandora – The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The excitement of being digitized into the TRON universe provided a distinctive opportunity for guests that has now been lost.
TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction opened in April 2023 after a lengthy construction period marked by various delays, many of which stemmed from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These delays affected not only Disney’s Florida resort but also parks worldwide, forcing them to adapt to a new operational landscape.
Despite its rocky path to opening, the TRON Lightcycle / Run has been received well by guests, becoming a favorite among the park’s offerings. The vibrant atmosphere and thrilling ride experience capture the excitement of the TRON franchise and have drawn numerous fans to the attraction since its debut.
The launch of TRON Lightcycle / Run signified a new chapter for Disney, showcasing a commitment to integrating innovative technology and themes into their parks. This futuristic ride, with its neon visuals and state-of-the-art roller coaster mechanics, represents Disney’s venture into blending classic storytelling with modern entertainment.

The TRON Identity Program had a notable cost, priced at $89.99 per guest plus tax. This premium price point reflected the unique experience offered; however, it also limited the demand among guests who were looking for more affordable souvenirs from their Disney adventures.
Although the Identity Program has come to a close, Disney continues to capitalize on the popularity of TRON through its merchandise offerings. Products such as identity discs, helmets, and various apparel remain available to guests, contributing to ongoing sales within the TRON branding.
While reservations for the TRON Identity Program had been unavailable through March, there was always a challenge in generating enough consistent demand for the bespoke experience. Many perceived the program as a luxury rather than a necessity, which may have impacted its sustainability in the long run.
With the closure of the TRON Identity Program, guests still have access to an array of TRON-themed merchandise at places like the Tomorrowland Launch Depot. From shirts to pins, fans can still find ways to indulge in their love for the TRON universe while visiting the park.
In addition to the merchandise, Disney plans to release a new film titled Tron: Ares on October 10, 2025. This film serves as a continuation of the TRON saga first established in 1982 and later revived with Tron: Legacy in 2010. With the return of familiar characters and themes, it promises to reignite interest in the franchise and could potentially lead to new initiatives within Disney parks.
The future of the TRON Identity Program remains uncertain. While discussions about its possible return linger among fans and park-goers, the absence of reservations may indicate that Disney is pivoting toward other experiences to create a more sustainable and broad appeal. Nonetheless, excitement remains high for all things TRON, thanks to both the upcoming film and the enduring allure of its themed attractions.
