Deluxe Disney Resort Hotel Fills Its Pool With Sand

Walt Disney World Resort’s Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is currently undergoing extensive renovations, leading to the temporary closure of its iconic Stormalong Bay pool. The pool, a popular feature at this Deluxe Disney Resort hotel, has been drained and filled with sand as part of the ongoing refurbishment.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, located just a short walk from EPCOT and a boat ride away from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is known for its elegant New England-style charm and fantastic amenities. The resort offers a relaxing and luxurious stay for guests who want both proximity to the theme parks and a peaceful getaway. However, some of its offerings are currently unavailable due to the refurbishments.

One key aspect of the renovations is the closure of Stormalong Bay and the Shipwreck Pool. According to a notice from Walt Disney World Resort, guests should expect to hear and see construction throughout the day as the resort works to update and enhance the hotel’s features. The notice on the resort’s website highlights that despite the ongoing construction, most of the resort’s amenities remain open for guests.

According to an update shared by WDWNT, crews have already begun removing concrete from the pool, which has now been partially filled with sand. The sand is not part of a permanent change, but rather a necessary step in the refurbishment process. It helps with drainage and protects the pool’s floor, ensuring a more comfortable and durable surface once the updates are complete. The surrounding areas are also undergoing significant construction, including the replacement of some of the pool’s patio and nearby sidewalks.

While much of the pool area is being worked on, the iconic fake rockwork around Stormalong Bay has remained largely untouched, though some minor cosmetic updates, such as paint touch-ups, are expected. Other parts of the Disney Resort, such as the hotel buildings, are also being worked on, with crews replacing siding and roof shingles. Scaffolding has been added to some of the buildings, but Disney is working to minimize guest disruption by doing work in phases.

Walt Disney World Resort has confirmed that the main Yacht Club pool area will remain closed for the duration of the renovations, which are scheduled to run through June 2025.
