Preparing Your Body For A Day At Disney World

Can we get really honest for a minute? The truth is Orlando can get “Hot, hot, sweaty hot!”. The heat would be bad enough to deal with, but when you add walking around on smoking’ hot asphalt, you have a perfect recipe for some unpleasant personal hygiene.

We have a few ideas about how to make your day in the park more enjoyable.

Apply Sunscreen – Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids Sunscreen Stick

So you’re in the park having time of your life and you realize “Oh my gosh! I didn’t put sunblock on my kids and now they’re all sweaty”!  What do you do now?

In moments like this I reach into my “Mom bag” of tricks and pull out my Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids Sunscreen Stick! This wonderful product is available in a lotion, spray or my personal favorite, a stick dispenser that almost looks like underarm deodorant for easy application on squirming kids.

A few great things about this product:

  • SPF 70 for excellent sun protection
  • You can apply it to wet or dry skin
  • Stays on for hours
  • Works on even the most sensitive skin

Don’t forget- to apply sunblock to ears and the back your neck and reapply every few hours. The tube is so small it can fit easily into your pant or shirt pocket for easy access. Use this sunblock product regularly and your mature skin will thank you by having less wrinkles and sunspots.

Apply Body Powder – Zeasorb powder

Florida in summer can get really, really hot. Between your sore, sweaty feet and other areas that chafe (which shall remain nameless), you’ll wish you’d stayed by the pool at your hotel.

How do you keep this level of discomfort from befalling you? Apply a little Zeasorb – a hospital grade powder without a heavy scent – that is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. Sprinkle some in your socks, underwear and anywhere else that gets irritated when overly warm and damp. You might even consider packing an extra pairs of underwear and socks to swap out mid-way through the day.

Have a Little Dab of Vaseline or Zinc Oxide Handy

Has this advice come too late to prevent sore irritated skin?  Apply Vaseline or zinc oxide liberally to these chafed sensitive areas for instant relief. Vaseline and Zinc oxide provide a barrier to skin, protecting it from further irritation while healing. If you’re a parent and your child is still in diapers, we recommend applying diaper cream to your kids bum after each diaper change to prevent heat rash and chafing which are a real concern in the heat and humidity at Disney.

Be Ready For Rainy Weather

We recently got stuck in Hollywood Studios in a downpour – talk about soggy. My husband’s socks and shoes were sopping and the hem of my maxi dress looked like I’d been wading across a river. We highly recommend purchasing disposable rain ponchos at a drugstore or Target and stashing them in your bag. Also a spare pair of socks and shoes that can dry quickly are positives as well. The nice thing about Disney in Florida is that rain usually passes as quickly as it comes. Don’t forget to rainproof your electronics as well.

Do Disney Bug-free

Along with the tropical climate at Disney are all sorts of creepy crawlies. Make sure to have some bug spray or individual pest-away towelettes available for application.

Be Germ-free

So, there are a LOT of people at Disney all touching the same surfaces over and over again which makes for the perfect germ pool! Yuck! An easy way to decontaminate little fingers and hands is to pack individual packs of germ-x or purell hand wipes in your bag and crack one out after every couple of rides. The only souveneirs you want to take home from Disney are plush toys and mouse ears… let’s skip head colds and stomach flu.

Disney Without The Grime

Even after washing hands in the bathrooms and sanitizing, it’s nice to have a cool, fresh-smelling baby wipe at the ready to freshen up throughout the day. This will keep you feeling cleaner and cooler and smelling great!
