This week, Walt Disney World Resort sealed the fate of a long-standing fixture of the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT. Here's what to know before you visit the second Central Florida Disney park.

On August 25, WDWNT reported that the Oaxacan wood-carving shop in the Plaza de los Amigos, in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT, is now liquidating its inventory. The outlet shared a photo of signs on the tables listing that the entire store is 50% off:

The stand in the “open-air”-style indoor marketplace inside the pyramid in the Mexico Pavilion sells statues hand-carved from wood in the Oaxacan Valley in southern Mexico. Artists meticulously use pocketknives and machetes to transform the wood into the intricate statues, sand them by hand, and then hand-paint them.

A Disney cast member told WDWNT that the stand is expected to close on Monday, August 31, 2026. The rest of the shops inside the pyramid in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT, as well as the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros attraction and the San Angel Inn Restaurante Table-Service dining location, are expected to continue operating normally following the closure.

Walt Disney World Resort has not said what, if anything, will replace the Oaxacan wood carving stand in the Plaza de los Amigos. The shop consists of a few tables tucked into an area near the entrance and exit of the pyramid, so it's possible that Disney will leave the area open to provide more breathing room for guests exploring the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion. It's unclear what drove Disney to close the stand.
