The final entrance to the Walt Disney World Railroad station on Main Street, U.S.A., is closed as the iconic steam train at Magic Kingdom Park undergoes a refurbishment. Here's what to know before your next visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth.
Walt Disney World Railroad Closure
The Walt Disney World Railroad closed for refurbishment on September 28 and was originally scheduled to reopen on October 30. However, the Walt Disney World Resort website now states that the historic steam train is “expected to reopen November 2026” and does not provide an exact date.
Due to ongoing development in Piston Peak National Park in Frontierland and Disney Villains Land, it will continue to operate in shuttle mode between Storybook Circus (Fantasyland) and Main Street, U.S.A. when it reopens. Frontierland Station is expected to remain closed until this massive Magic Kingdom Park expansion is complete.
Final Entrance to Main Street, U.S.A., Station Blocked Off
Two days after the Walt Disney World Railroad closed, so did the last open entrance to the Main Street, U.S.A., station at the Magic Kingdom. On September 30, WDWNT shared a photo of the roped-off staircase alongside a sign reading, “Sorry folks! The Walt Disney World Railroad is not currently operating.”
This staircase allowed Magic Kingdom Park guests to access a collectible medallion machine on the second floor of the train station, as well as aerial views of Main Street, U.S.A. Similar ropes and signage block all other entrances to the Main Street, U.S.A., station.
It's unclear whether Walt Disney World Resort plans to reopen this staircase or another entrance to the second floor of the Main Street, U.S.A., station before the month-long Walt Disney World Railroad refurbishment is complete.
