Something is reassuring about ending a Disney World day with fireworks lighting up the sky above Cinderella Castle. It’s been a long-standing tradition for park-goers: no matter how packed the park felt or how many miles you walked, you can always count on that burst of magic at the end of the night.
But this December, that nightly finale won’t look the same. Disney has confirmed changes to its fireworks schedule for the holiday season, and guests can expect a different lineup as the month progresses.

A Seasonal Pause for “Happily Ever After”
For most of the year, Happily Ever After is the show that ties everything together. With its mix of projections, fireworks, and emotional storytelling, it’s the big ending that many guests plan their night around. But when December arrives, Disney temporarily steps away from the usual routine. Once again, Happily Ever After will take a break during the second half of the month, allowing Magic Kingdom to focus on its Christmas entertainment.
If you notice the show missing on the schedule during your visit, it isn’t a mistake. Disney pauses it intentionally, opening the door for its holiday spectaculars to take over the sky. And the good news? December doesn’t lose fireworks — it gains them.

Holiday Magic Takes Over With Minnie’s Christmas Fireworks
With the regular nighttime spectacular paused, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks becomes the star of the season. The show is usually part of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, but during Christmas week, Disney offers it to all-day guests. No separate ticket needed.
From December 22 through December 29, guests can watch Minnie lead the festivities every night at 8:30 p.m. It’s the full version of the show, complete with holiday projections and music — the same production that party guests enjoy earlier in the season. With the Christmas Party sold out, this window gives everyone a chance to experience a holiday highlight without incurring any extra cost.

Closing the Year With “Fantasy in the Sky”
As the holiday week wraps up, the finale of the year moves into place. On December 30 and 31, Magic Kingdom brings back Fantasy in the Sky, one of its most iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks displays. It’s energetic, nostalgic, and built for celebration — the perfect lead-in to the midnight hour.
These nights always draw big crowds, with guests settling into viewing spots early. The countdown moment, the fireworks, and the atmosphere around the castle have turned the show into a bucket-list experience for many.
Holiday Energy Everywhere You Look
By the time December arrives, Magic Kingdom looks and feels completely transformed. Garland stretches across Main Street, U.S.A., seasonal music fills the park, and every corner feels touched by the holidays. The fireworks schedule mirrors that spirit, which is why Happily Ever After takes a break — Disney wants the nighttime sky to reflect the season from top to bottom.
Even guests who couldn’t grab a ticket to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party still get their holiday fix thanks to the weeklong run of Minnie’s fireworks. And those visiting at the very end of the month get the excitement of Disney’s New Year’s countdown.

What Guests Can Expect This December
The nighttime schedule rotates, but the sky stays busy. Here’s how the final days of December stack up:
Happily Ever After takes a seasonal pause
Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks runs nightly December 22–29
Fantasy in the Sky closes out the year on December 30 and 31
So while your usual fireworks routine may look a little different, the magic is still there — just wrapped in holiday lights and festive music. Whether you're catching Minnie’s Christmas celebration or ringing in the new year, December at Disney World promises a sky full of sparkle.
