Has the New ‘Jurassic Park’ Sequel Been Quietly Shelved?

Fans of Jurassic Park may be anxiously awaiting their return to Isla Nublar in the much-anticipated video game “Jurassic Park: Survival”. With its cinematic teaser trailer debuting at last year’s Game Awards, the game promised a thrilling narrative that picks up 24 hours after the events of the iconic 1993 film. However, a concerning silence from Universal and Saber Interactive since June has left fans speculating about the game’s fate.

The official synopsis for “Jurassic Park: Survival” reads:

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making. Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story.”

Earlier this year, IGN shared exclusive details about the game, providing a closer look at the immersive environments and dinosaurs brought to life by John Hammond’s vision. But since then, there has been little to no news—an absence that has many fearing the worst.

Unfortunately, the gaming industry is no stranger to abrupt cancellations. Promising titles can be shelved even in advanced stages of development. If “Jurassic Park: Survival” does meet this fate, it wouldn’t be the first Jurassic Park game with this title to be canceled. Back in 2001, Savage Entertainment’s planned “Jurassic Park: Survival” game was scrapped. Similarly, 2015’s “Jurassic World: Survivor”, a third-person adaptation of the blockbuster movie, never saw the light of day after the closure of Cryptic Studios’ Seattle office.

Though no official statements have even remotely hinted at the current project’s cancelation, the lack of updates, coupled with its “cursed” title, raises eyebrows. Fans can only hope Universal and Saber Interactive are taking extra time to perfect the game. As the tagline for the original movie says, “If it’s not Jurassic Park, it’s extinct.” Let’s hope that’s true.

For now, “Jurassic Park: Survival” remains listed as an upcoming release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and other gaming platforms. Only time will tell if this adventure will escape extinction or become yet another fossil in Jurassic‘s gaming history.
