Haunted Mansion To Close Down – But for How Long?

It’s not often that an attraction with this much history simply drops off the schedule—especially during one of the biggest celebrations in Disneyland’s legacy.

As the Resort rolls out the red carpet for its 70th Anniversary, guests are flooding in to witness nostalgic touches like the Walt Disney: A Magical Life marquee and the reopening of fan-favorite shows like the Enchanted Tiki Room. But in the midst of all the celebration, something unsettling is brewing behind the scenes. And fans have started to notice.

One of Disneyland’s most iconic and beloved rides has seemingly disappeared—no announcement, no press release, and no explanation.

Haunted Mansion Goes Dark—But Why?

According to Disneyland Park’s official schedule, the Haunted Mansion will have no operating hours beginning August 11, 2025. That absence continues into August 12, with no indication of when the classic version of the attraction will resume operation.

While Disney hasn’t formally commented on the ride’s sudden disappearance, seasoned fans likely know what this means: Jack Skellington is coming.

The Pumpkin King’s Seasonal Takeover

Every year, the Haunted Mansion temporarily shuts down to make room for Haunted Mansion Holiday, a festive overlay that brings characters and scenes from The Nightmare Before Christmas into the spooky, ghost-filled mansion.

This year appears to be no different. The official Disneyland calendar shows the attraction returning on August 22, 2025, in its holiday form. The seasonal version will run through January 7, 2026, just as it has in past years.

During the roughly 10-day transformation period, the ride is expected to remain closed as Disney Imagineers outfit the mansion with Halloween Town charm—from animated pumpkin patches to the show-stopping gingerbread house in the ballroom scene.

A Fan Favorite… With Mixed Feelings

While Haunted Mansion Holiday is wildly popular, not every Disney fan celebrates its arrival. For many, the original Haunted Mansion—opened in 1969—is a masterclass in storytelling, effects, and atmospheric design. That version only runs for about half the year, making its absence during the rest of the calendar especially noticeable.

And with the 70th Anniversary festivities happening across the Resort, some fans were hoping to experience Disneyland’s classic rides in their original form—not in seasonal overlays.

It sparks a familiar debate: Does Disney risk compromising its history by over-prioritizing seasonal events? Or is the rotating experience part of the charm that keeps guests returning?

Planning Around the Closure

If you’re visiting Disneyland in August, here’s what you need to know:

  • The last day to likely catch the original Haunted Mansion is August 10, 2025.

  • The ride will likely remain closed from August 11–21 for its transformation.

  • Haunted Mansion Holiday is expected to begin on August 22 and will run through January 7, 2026.

That gives guests about five months to enjoy the holiday version—after which the original attraction typically returns in early spring.

Final Thought: A Haunting (Haunted Mansion) Reminder

As Disneyland marks its 70th year, the quiet removal of Haunted Mansion from the schedule is a subtle but powerful reminder of how the park continues to evolve. While longtime guests cherish the originals, newer generations embrace the overlays, the celebrations, and the fresh spins on timeless experiences.

And in the case of this spooky ride, sometimes the ghost stories change, but the spirit remains the same.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
