The original Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park is closed, and the ghosts currently haunting its halls are being evicted to make way for a very different kind of holiday spirit.
The Mansion Goes Dark on August 12
Disneyland Resort's official website confirms that the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square is closed as of Wednesday, August 12. The operational calendar currently runs through September 24, 2026, and the attraction has no scheduled reopening date listed through that point. Guests visiting the attraction's entrance on Wednesday found metal barricades blocking the way in, the iron gate behind the barriers closed, and scrim-covered fences surrounding the area.
WDW News Today shared a photo of the blocked entrance on Facebook, along with an image of the signage that makes the reason for the closure — and the timeline for its return — abundantly clear.
A sign on the closed gate featuring Jack Skellington in his Sandy Claws outfit delivers the following message:
“Sandy Claws is busy decking these haunted halls.
Please join us for a frightfully good time after August 21.
Season's screamings!”
Signs along the scrim-covered fencing surrounding the attraction read:
“The Haunted Mansion is unavailable while our silly spooks are out living it up!
Please visit other spirited attractions in New Orleans Square.”
Haunted Mansion Holiday Returns August 21
The closure is the annual preparation window for Haunted Mansion Holiday — the beloved Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)-themed overlay that transforms the New Orleans Square attraction each Halloween and Christmas season at Disneyland Park. The overlay has been a Disneyland Park tradition since 2001, with Tokyo Disneyland introducing its own version in 2004.
This year's Haunted Mansion Holiday opens on August 21 and is expected to run through sometime in January 2027, though Disneyland Resort has not confirmed an exact closing date for the overlay.
