Walt Disney World Resort’s Haunted Mansion attraction reportedly “failed” earlier this month, causing many guests to be escorted off. One guest detailed how their party—including two toddlers—was trapped on the Magic Kingdom Park ride for an extended period. The family found themselves stuck “backwards” on a decline in the ride, which led to an uncomfortable situation until Disney cast members arrived to assist.
The Haunted Mansion has been a mainstay of Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park since 1971. Initially conceived by Walt Disney as a walk-through “museum of the weird,” the ride has seen a number of changes over the years, balancing spooky thrills with whimsical, family-friendly charm. While it originally opened at Disneyland Park in 1969, the Florida version of the ride quickly became one of the Magic Kingdom’s most iconic attractions. Though the ride continues to be popular, it, like all long-running Disney Park attractions, occasionally faces technical difficulties.
Most pauses at Haunted Mansion are brief, often helping Disney cast members accommodate guests with disabilities. However, like many other Disney attractions, the Haunted Mansion is susceptible to longer downtimes due to technical issues or guest misbehavior (including dumping human ashes…). In this case, the issue lasted long enough to force the evacuation of Disney Park guests.
On June 19, TikTok user @taylorwolfe256 shared a video showing several Doom Buggies stuck in the graveyard scene, with overhead lights turned on, indicating the attraction had been stopped for an extended period. The family, trapped on the backwards incline of the ride, experienced an uncomfortable wait until Disney cast members arrived to assist with their evacuation.

As is customary with most ride breakdowns, Walt Disney World Resort has not publicly disclosed the exact reason behind this malfunction. However, as the incident occurred, the Haunted Mansion eventually resumed normal operations.
