1. A Mysterious Voice
Our last entry is one only the Disney historians may know, but all should take note. Upon exiting the ride, there is a large mausoleum towering next to the exit gate. Much like the graveyard queue, on each stone is written a humorous phrase about the deceased. One of these stones reads: “Farewell forever, Mister Frees, your voice will carry on the breeze.” This is a reference to famous voice actor Paul Frees, who still narrates The Haunted Mansion as the Ghost Host. Though this Disney legend passed in 1986, he can never be replaced. There is only one voice eerie enough for the line “Welcome, Foolish Mortals” and that will always be Mr. Frees. Gotta love a Disney Easter egg that is not only a hidden gem but an appropriate and loving tribute.
These are only ten of the various hidden haunts the manor has to offer. There is no doubt in my mind there is probably a dozen more. Let me leave you with this advice, The Haunted Mansion is an attraction meant to be ridden through multiple times. The designers and Imagineers have gone the extra mile and a half to scare guests silly with a house full of 999 Happy Haunts. You won’t see everything on your first trip, so hurry back, hurry back and ride again. Some fans are just dying to see it all.
