9. There’s Always My Way
Every Haunted Mansion fan is familiar with the Ghost Host, that eerie voice that floats over the Doom-Buggies as they flow through the mansion. For some that’s all the Ghost Host is, a voice. However, he does have a physical form. In the “Stretching Room,” when he delivers the line “there’s always my way,” a projection of a hanging skeleton suddenly appears over the spectators. Some Haunted Mansion fans immediately assume this is our only glimpse at our ghoulish guide. They’re wrong. If one looks closely at one of the paintings in the hallway, one can see a sinister looking figure holding an ax. Dubbed “The Hatchet Man,” this portrait leers at the guests as their Doom-Buggie goes by. A closer look reveals that he is wearing the exact same clothes as the hanging skeleton in the Stretching Room. But perhaps the most ominous feature of the painting is the cut noose around his neck. Looks like our host is done hanging around, and is now free to float through the halls.
