Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios can once again step inside the attraction after it disappeared from regular operation for a little over a week.

The closure began on April 29 when Walt Disney World temporarily reassigned the theater space for Star Wars Day merchandise distribution and event management. Disney never shared an exact reopening timeline during the shutdown, prompting speculation from some fans that the venue could remain unavailable well after May the Fourth celebrations wrapped up.
Found on Commissary Lane, the Mickey Shorts Theater features Vacation Fun–An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie. The attraction pulls inspiration from Disney Channel’s newer Mickey Mouse animated shorts, blending cartoon clips with interactive theater effects to create a short indoor show experience.
Even though the attraction is smaller compared to headline rides elsewhere in the park, it fills an important role inside Hollywood Studios. Attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attract heavy crowds throughout the day, while Mickey Shorts Theater gives families and younger guests a more relaxed option. It has also become a favorite spot for visitors hoping to cool down indoors during Florida’s warmer months.

Disney used the venue during its annual Star Wars Day merchandise event, which has grown into a major shopping occasion at Disney theme parks. Every year, exclusive Star Wars products and limited-edition collectibles generate long lines and strong demand from guests hoping to secure event merchandise before it sells out.
To help control crowds, Disney relied on virtual queues and scheduled shopping access during the event window. Similar retail setups were also introduced at Disney Springs as part of the larger May the Fourth rollout.
The move also continues a larger operational shift happening throughout Disney Parks. Over the past several years, Disney has increasingly transformed existing spaces into temporary retail hubs for franchise launches and special promotions. Merchandise tied to Star Wars, Marvel, and vintage Disney Parks themes continues to play a major role in those limited-time offerings.
Fortunately, guests won’t have to wait any longer for the attraction’s return. On May 7, Disney reopened Mickey Shorts Theater and resumed regular showings of Vacation Fun–An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie.

Because Disney never announced a long-term closure or refurbishment schedule, the speedy reopening points to the theater being used strictly for short-term event operations connected to Star Wars Day shopping crowds.
The temporary conversion has also raised questions among some Disney Parks fans about whether attractions and entertainment spaces should continue being used for merchandise events during high-demand celebrations.
