Disney World Changes Hollywood Studios Access Before Major September Opening

Guests Should Be Prepared

Walt Disney World is setting up an unusually layered September at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where a major new attraction will open while several forms of nighttime access remain restricted to guests who either qualify through their hotel stay or buy a separate ticket. The Hollywood Studios September changes create a noticeable divide between what standard admission includes and what additional spending—or a qualifying resort reservation—can unlock.

That distinction matters for anyone planning a September visit. Disney After Hours returns for its final two Hollywood Studios dates of 2026, Extended Evening Theme Park Hours shift to the park on three nights, The Magic of Disney Animation opens September 14, and Cool KIDS’ SUMMER ends September 8.

Hollywood Studios After Hours puts three extra hours behind a separate ticket

Disney has confirmed that Disney After Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will run September 2 and September 12, the final two scheduled dates at the park in 2026. The September 2 event runs from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; September 12 runs from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

This is not an extension included with a regular daytime ticket. Disney describes After Hours as a limited-capacity, separately ticketed event offering lower waits for select attractions, character encounters, and included snacks. Event-ticket holders can enter Hollywood Studios beginning at 7 p.m. without purchasing separate daytime admission.

Disney currently lists both September dates at $155 plus tax. That makes the access question particularly visible: regular admission covers the standard park day, while separately paying guests receive three dedicated event hours afterward.

Inside the Magic recently covered Hollywood Studios After Hours pricing and remaining availability, adding context for guests weighing the premium experience against a conventional park day.

Extended Evening Hours create another access tier

A different form of late-night access arrives later in September. Disney’s Extended Evening Theme Park Hours benefit is available to registered guests at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, and certain other participating hotels—not every Walt Disney World hotel guest.

Hollywood Studios is scheduled to host Extended Evening Hours on September 16, 23, and 30 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eligible attractions include Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Toy Story Mania!, and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, among others. Disney cautions that availability can change.

Inside the Magic previously reported Disney’s September Extended Evening Hours move to Hollywood Studios as part of the resort’s broader fall operating schedule.

Unlike After Hours, there is no separate event ticket for eligible hotel guests. Taken together, however, the programs create two premium paths to late-night park time: buy After Hours admission or qualify for Extended Evening Hours through an eligible stay. That doesn’t establish that Disney is deliberately reducing the value of standard admission, but the access segmentation is difficult to miss.

The Magic of Disney Animation opens September 14

The biggest addition of the month will be available during normal park operations. Disney has officially set September 14 as the opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation, the centerpiece of its reimagined Animation Courtyard project.

The project replaces the former Star Wars Launch Bay location, which closed in September 2025 as Disney began transforming the area. Inside the Magic covered Disney’s original Star Wars Launch Bay replacement announcement and later reported the confirmed September 14 opening date.

Disney says the experience draws inspiration from its Burbank animation campus and Once Upon a Studio. The collection includes “Drawn to Wonderland,” “Off the Page!,” “Olaf Draws!,” and the Once Upon a Studio Theater, alongside other interactive animation experiences.

That makes the opening an important counterweight to the premium-access story: Disney is not placing September’s headline attraction behind an After Hours ticket or Deluxe-resort requirement.

One summer perk disappears before the new attraction arrives

September also marks the end of Cool KIDS’ SUMMER. Disney officially lists the resort-wide promotion as running through September 8, with limited-time character encounters, activities, entertainment, and other seasonal offerings.

Some associated resort benefits carry the same cutoff. Disney says complimentary water-park admission on check-in day for Disney Resorts Collection guests is available for arrivals from May 26 through September 8, 2026.

That creates a six-day gap between the promotion’s final day and The Magic of Disney Animation’s September 14 debut. Guests visiting across those dates shouldn’t assume summer-specific offerings will continue simply because their vacation begins in early September.

September rewards guests who plan around the calendar

Hollywood Studios will offer notably different experiences depending on the date, ticket, and hotel. September 2 and 12 bring paid After Hours events; September 8 ends Cool KIDS’ SUMMER; September 14 opens The Magic of Disney Animation; and September 16, 23, and 30 bring Extended Evening Hours for eligible resort guests.

The transformation also completes a storyline that began with the permanent closure of Animation Courtyard and Star Wars Launch Bay in 2025.

For regular daytime visitors, the practical takeaway is to check Disney’s schedule before buying tickets and avoid assuming every advertised perk applies to every guest. The month’s biggest addition, The Magic of Disney Animation, joins the standard daytime lineup, but September also demonstrates how layered a Walt Disney World visit can become when dates, hotel category, and separately ticketed events determine who remains in the park after regular operating hours.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
