‘Home Alone’ Short With Female Kevin McCallister Arrives

Throughout the Home Alone movies, the hero is always male. Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) in the first two films, Alex Pruitt (Alex D Linz) in Home Alone 3, a recast Kevin McCallister (Mike Weinberg) in Home Alone 4, Finn Baxter (Christian Martyn) in Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, and Max Mercer (Archie Yates) in Home Sweet Home Alone.

But will the series ever give audiences a female lead? You could make the case that Alexis Baxter (Jodelle Ferland) is one of the leads in The Holiday Heist, but she shares her screentime with her brother, Finn. Now, a Saturday Night Live sketch has given us some food for thought. In the parody, American pop singer and actor Ariana Grande, who hosted the same episode, played Kevin McCallister. While Grande is playing Kevin, a male character, it still has us wondering why there hasn't been a female Home Alone hero fending off her home against bumbling bandits yet.

Home Alone has always been associated with Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). But could a future film, whether it's another sequel or a reboot, finally bring in a female lead character?

There's currently quite a bit of renewed attention on Home Alone, from Culkin’s appearance in seasonal ads to his recent sequel ideas, which is hardly surprising considering the original film turns 35 years old this year. But will we ever get another Home Alone film? Looking back at the last four entries in the franchise, it's probably best left alone. Even director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two, recently told The Hollywood Reporter that the franchise went down hill after Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

All six Home Alone movies are now streaming on Disney+.
