Universal Orlando Resort is charging full speed ahead in 2025—with both grand debuts and emotional farewells shaping an unforgettable year. As Epic Universe opens the gates to a spectacular new park experience, Universal is also preparing to retire one of its longtime staples: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will officially close on August 18, 2025.

First launching in 2009, Rip Ride Rockit has offered guests a one-of-a-kind thrill with its vertical lift hill and customizable music tracks. Its unforgettable 167-foot climb while riders lie flat quickly became a favorite among thrill-seekers, helping to define Universal Studios Florida’s coaster lineup.

Yet as excitement mounts for the new lands of Epic Universe—Celestial Park, Dark Universe, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk—plans are quietly unfolding for what’s next back at Universal Studios Florida.

On December 26, 2024, a permit labeled Project 830 was filed with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). This official documentation referenced the “removal and replacement of Rip Ride Rockit,” marking the clearest signal yet that the ride’s days were numbered. Since then, aerial images captured by @Bioreconstruct have confirmed that work is already underway—despite the attraction remaining open to the public.

Photos show that walkways and landscaping near the ride have been cleared, with eight rectangular signs (once used for Blue Man Group show promotions) still standing in the area. Fans were quick to point out how rare it is for Universal Destinations & Experiences to begin transformation efforts while a ride is still in operation.

As for what will take Rip Ride Rockit’s place? Universal hasn’t shared any official details yet. However, the permit notes involvement from Intamin, a Swiss coaster manufacturer with a track record that includes the How to Train Your Dragon ride at Epic Universe and Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, now in development at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Universal’s dramatic expansion with Epic Universe, which opened on May 22, 2025, adds a third full theme park to its growing portfolio in Central Florida. With nearby destinations like Walt Disney World and SeaWorld Orlando keeping the region a favorite for visitors worldwide, Universal’s new offerings place it firmly in the spotlight.

While the destination gears up for even more innovation, fans still have a chance to revisit a classic. Rip Ride Rockit’s final drop may be fast approaching, but its legacy as a customizable, high-energy thrill ride won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
