Even with Halloween festivities in full swing at Walt Disney World Resort, one of the hottest summers on record has left a lingering mark on the EPCOT World Showcase, where an unannounced cooling addition remains stationed between the Italy and American Adventure Pavilions.
A Historically Hot Summer in Central Florida
Summer 2026 pushed Central Florida to extremes. According to ClickOrlando, July brought record-breaking temperatures to Orlando, with an average of 84.4 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the month. That makes this past summer the second-hottest on record for the city, trailing only the summer of 1903.
The heat wasn't limited to daytime highs, either. Cities throughout Central Florida experienced elevated heat indexes, or “real feel” temperatures, alongside notably less rainfall than in previous years. What storms did arrive were brief and isolated, contributing to the region's longest stretch of severe drought since 2000.
Guests visiting Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park faced repeated heat warnings throughout the summer, with officials encouraging visitors to seek shade, stay indoors when possible, or take frequent breaks during peak afternoon hours. The extreme conditions prompted Walt Disney World Resort to ramp up its usual cooling measures in an effort to help guests avoid heat-related illness.
A Summer Fixture Still Standing at EPCOT
Though Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival now mark the arrival of fall at Walt Disney World Resort, temperatures in Central Florida remain stubbornly high, often still climbing into the high 80s.
That lingering heat explains why a large industrial fan remains positioned along a walkway between the Italy and American Adventure Pavilions at EPCOT, cordoned off with yellow tape to keep guests safely away from its spinning blades. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace shared a photo of the fan on September 30, writing:

Disney will likely remove the fan once cooler temperatures finally settle into Central Florida later in the year.
