Few names are as recognizable to the younger generation as Lindsay Lohan, who starred in many iconic films over the last two decades. From Mean Girls (2004) to Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), Lohan effectively was the “It Girl” for a lot of kids growing up in the early 2000s. Of course, Lohan began her career with Disney in the classic 1998 film The Parent Trap, which used impressive special effects to convince audiences that Lohan had a twin sister. The film is unforgettably funny and incredibly iconic, becoming one of the most quotable and memorable live-action comedies to come from Disney.

However, Walt Disney Pictures’ relationship would reach new heights with Freaky Friday (2003), which is officially getting a sequel.

In the summer of 2023, it was announced that a potential sequel to this classic comedy was happening, though details surrounding the upcoming film remained scarce. Both stars of the film, Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, are international Hollywood icons now, making a sequel a lot more tricky. However, this announcement came and went, with very few details emerging about its status.

Thankfully, Lohan has given fans confirmation that Freaky Friday 2 is happening.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy YouTube show, Lohan officially confirmed that the film is a go, though she remained silent as to when fans could expect it to come out.

Freaky Friday 2 does not have an official release date, nor has it been specified whether it will be a theatrical release or a Disney+ release, something that The Walt Disney Company has been leaning heavily in over the last few years.

No details have been released about the actual film, but Elyse Hollander is penning the script. The original film starred Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Harold Gould, Rosalind Chao, Lucille Soong, Ryan Malgarini, Willie Garson, Christina Vidal, and Haley Hudson. Freaky Friday is now 21 years old (wow), meaning the plot of Freaky Friday 2 would have to take quite a different approach than the high school-focused drama of the original film.

Freaky Friday 2 would see Lohan return to play Anna Coleman, daughter of Curtis’ character of Tess Coleman. During the film, the two learn what it’s like to live each other’s lives, realizing they both face struggles neither one of them had expected. The film is hilarious but also filled with heart and the important message of family, becoming one of the most iconic Disney films of the early 2000s.

Are you a fan of Freaky Friday? Are you excited about a sequel?
