A man is dead following a shooting Saturday evening in the parking lot of Dolly Parton's Stampede, one of the most visited dinner show attractions in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The Pigeon Forge Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:35 PM reporting a gunshot in the venue's parking lot. Officers arrived to find two men inside a vehicle. One of the men told officers he had a handgun when it discharged, striking the other man. The victim was transported to LeConte Medical Center and was pronounced dead.

No names have been released. The investigation is ongoing.

The circumstances as described by police suggest the discharge was not a confrontation between strangers or a random act of violence directed at the venue or its guests, but a firearm discharging inside a vehicle in a parking lot that was active with families arriving for or departing the evening show. The distinction matters for context. It does not change the outcome, which is a fatality at a major family tourism destination on a Saturday night during one of Pigeon Forge's busiest seasons.

Dolly Parton's Stampede has been a fixture of the Pigeon Forge tourism corridor for years. Located at 3849 Parkway minutes from Dollywood, the venue hosts a live dinner show featuring 32 horses, equestrian stunts, acrobatics, and a 12.5 million LED video wall alongside a four-course meal that includes creamy vegetable soup, homemade biscuits, whole rotisserie chicken, pork loin, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and dessert. Shows run approximately 90 minutes to two hours. Guests are encouraged to arrive 45 to 60 minutes early to visit the pre-show Horse Walk. The venue offers free parking and accommodates large groups, with vegetarian and gluten-free meal options available on request.

The Stampede has not released a public statement as of this writing.

Pigeon Forge is a town built almost entirely around family tourism. The Parkway that runs through the center of town is lined with dinner shows, attractions, shopping, and restaurants, all oriented toward the families who come to visit Dollywood and the surrounding Smoky Mountain entertainment district. The area draws visitors from across the country, and the combination of Dollywood's reputation and the broader attraction ecosystem in town makes it one of the more reliable family vacation destinations in the American South.

A fatal shooting in any parking lot on that strip is an anomaly, and it deserves to be reported as one without either minimizing what happened or overstating what it means for the destination as a whole. The specific circumstances here, a firearm discharging inside a parked vehicle, are different from the kind of targeted or random violence that would represent a systemic safety concern for visitors. But a man died, and families who are currently in Pigeon Forge or planning to visit should have accurate information about what occurred.

Dollywood, the area's primary anchor attraction, is a separate operation from the Stampede and is unaffected by Saturday's incident. The park is currently dealing with its own news: overnight storm damage on April 18 uprooted a tree near Eagle Mountain Sanctuary, compromising the aviary that houses the park's rescued bald eagles in partnership with the American Eagle Foundation. Wings of America shows have been canceled since Sunday, April 19, and as of Monday, April 20, the closure continues. Dollywood confirmed on Instagram: “All Wings of America shows for today (Monday, April 20) have been canceled as repair work continues at the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary.”

Dollywood's official statement on the damage reads: “Due to storms overnight, a tree near Eagle Mountain Sanctuary was uprooted, causing the aviary to be compromised. Staff from the American Eagle Foundation will remove the eagles from the aviary and will house them at their facilities until the netting can be repaired. The area of the park near the aviary will be closed, and all Wings of America shows for today (Sunday, April 19) have been canceled as necessary work is completed.”

No reopening timeline has been given for Eagle Mountain Sanctuary. The rest of Dollywood is fully operational, including the Flower and Food Festival, which runs through June 7 with seasonal food offerings, floral displays, and the Umbrella Sky installation. NightFlight Expedition, a new attraction in Wildwood Grove billed as the world's first indoor family hybrid coaster and whitewater river raft ride, is expected to open sometime this spring.

What Families Planning a Pigeon Forge Trip Should Know

For guests with Dolly Parton's Stampede on their itinerary, waiting for an official statement from the venue before your visit is a reasonable step. The investigation is ongoing and additional details about the circumstances and any charges may emerge in the coming days. Local Pigeon Forge news outlets and the Pigeon Forge Police Department are the most reliable sources for updates on the investigation.

For guests whose trip centers on Dollywood specifically, the park is operating as normal with the exception of Wings of America. The Flower and Food Festival is a genuinely strong reason to visit right now, and the broader park experience is not affected by either the Stampede incident or the aviary closure.

Families who are combining a Stampede dinner show with a Dollywood park day, a common Pigeon Forge itinerary, should stay current on both situations before they travel. The Stampede news is developing and the aviary repair timeline at Dollywood is unknown. Both are worth checking on before you finalize a trip that includes either.

The Smoky Mountain tourism corridor remains a compelling family destination. What occurred Saturday evening in the Stampede parking lot is a serious and tragic incident that deserves accurate coverage, and the appropriate response from potential visitors is to stay informed rather than to panic or to dismiss it entirely.

For the latest on the Pigeon Forge investigation, follow local news coverage in the area. For Dollywood conditions including the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary reopening, Dollywood's official Instagram is posting updates in real time. Check both before your visit and plan accordingly.
