On May 19, Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a disturbance inside Steakhouse 71 at Disney's Contemporary Resort. A police report later detailed what unfolded between a 57-year-old guest named Leslie Helen Varley and two Walt Disney World Resort cast members during what began as a disagreement over table arrangements for a large dining party.

The first victim, identified in the report as a Disney Duty Manager, told law enforcement that Varley became “irate” over the seating situation. According to the report, she threw three cups filled with ice and water at him, all of which struck the front of his body. She then allegedly approached him, forcibly removed his name tag from his suit jacket, and walked away with it. The Duty Manager followed her to the check-in desk to retrieve it.

The second victim, another Disney Manager, said she initially stepped in to help address Varley's seating concerns. After she informed the group that tables could not be moved to accommodate them sitting together, Varley allegedly grabbed her by both shoulders and physically forced her to move approximately six steps.

The second manager also witnessed Varley throw glasses of water and ice at the Duty Manager. Four glasses were broken during the incident, resulting in roughly $20 in property damage.

Varley told law enforcement that she had overheard Disney cast members discussing her disabled daughter's interactions with Steakhouse 71 employees, which upset her. She admitted to throwing water at the Duty Manager and taking his name tag, though she maintained that she needed it to identify him in order to file a formal complaint.

Both Disney cast members declined medical treatment at the scene and had no visible injuries, but each invoked Marsey's Law protections against Varley, entitling them to legal protections, privacy, and notification about any court proceedings stemming from the incident.

The Charges and the Consequences

Leslie Helen Varley was arrested and charged with two counts of battery, robbery by sudden snatching, and criminal mischief under $200. She was booked by the Orange County Sheriff's Office on May 20, 2026. Walt Disney World Resort also issued Varley a trespass warning, barring her from all Disney property in Central Florida. Any return to the Central Florida vacation destination could result in an additional arrest for trespassing.
