Urgent Update: Mickey and Minnie Mouse Disappear From Disney World

If you’re headed to Walt Disney World Resort this week, we have an important update regarding two of the park’s most beloved characters. Mickey and Minnie Mouse will not be available for meet-and-greets at their usual location in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park as part of a scheduled refurbishment.

This temporary closure affects the “Meet Favorite Disney Pals at Adventurers Outpost” location, a Discovery Island location where guests can meet Mickey and Minnie dressed in their safari best. The meet-and-greet area features photo backdrops inspired by Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, including the stunning Tree of Life and images showcasing Mickey and Minnie’s adventures around the globe.

This week, Walt Disney World Resort updated its website to reveal that the Adventurers Outpost location will be closed for routine refurbishment from February 25-27, 2025. Though the attraction’s closure may seem sudden, these kinds of short-term closures are typical for minor maintenance work, like touch-ups or small repairs. Disney hasn’t provided specific details on what exactly will be worked on during the closure, but based on past experiences, guests can likely expect just the usual updates to keep the area looking fresh.

While the closure might impact those who had planned to meet Mickey and Minnie at Adventurers Outpost, there’s no need to worry. The characters are still around Walt Disney World Resort, just not in their usual Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park location for the next few days.

The Controversy of PhotoPass Boxes

When Adventurers Outpost first reopened after the pandemic closures, it sparked some debate among Disney Parks fans, particularly over the new addition of PhotoPass boxes. Instead of a live photographer taking photos of guests with Mickey and Minnie, these automatic boxes take pictures at intervals. Unfortunately, the fixed nature of the cameras means they can’t capture those spontaneous moments the way human photographers can, and this has been a point of frustration for some since they first appeared in 2019.

Despite the backlash, PhotoPass boxes have become a fixture at other meet-and-greet locations around the resort, including the Meet Mickey Mouse experience in Town Square Theater at Magic Kingdom Park and Meet Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

As for what guests can expect once the Adventurers Outpost reopens, things will likely return to normal by February 28, 2025. Although Disney hasn’t provided specifics on the changes during this closure, this is likely just part of the usual upkeep required to keep attractions and experiences at their best.

For families planning to visit in the coming days, there’s still plenty of magic to experience. Mickey and Minnie Mouse are still meeting guests around Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Other characters will still greet guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, including Dug and Russel from Up (2009), Donald Duck, and Moana.
