Walt Disney World Resort filed a wave of construction permits for Disney Springs this week, touching everything from the lifestyle district's iconic footbridge to several popular shops and restaurants.
The Disney Springs Footbridge Takes Center Stage
The most notable of the seven filings concerns the bridge spanning the lagoon that connects the Marketplace and Town Center neighborhoods at Disney Springs. Walt Disney World Resort‘s Facility Asset Management Team submitted the Notice of Commencement to the Orange County Comptroller's Office on Tuesday, September 22.
The filing names Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney's in-house contractor, as the party handling “General Construction” at 1620 East Buena Vista Drive, the address associated with the well-known footbridge.
Permits filed through Disney's Facility Asset Management Team typically point toward routine maintenance or refurbishment rather than major transformations. Larger, more significant changes to an area's overall character usually fall under the purview of Walt Disney Imagineering instead.
Disney hasn't announced any closure plans for the footbridge, though a temporary shutdown for structural maintenance remains possible, which would force guests to take the longer land route between the two neighborhoods.
Six More Permits Target Shops and Restaurants
Beyond the footbridge, Walt Disney World Resort filed six additional construction permits this week, each covering a different retail or dining location throughout Disney Springs. Every filing similarly listed Buena Vista Construction Company as the contractor handling “General Construction,” covering the following locations: Paddlefish, Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, UNIQLO, The LEGO Store, the Happy Hound merchandise kiosk, and The BOATHOUSE.
As with the footbridge permit, Disney has not publicly commented on any of these filings or detailed what changes guests might expect at these locations.
All seven permits filed Tuesday, including the one for the Disney Springs footbridge, are set to expire on September 21, 2027.
