As the festive season reaches its peak, Disney enthusiasts are flocking to the House of Mouse’s premier resort in the Sunshine State. Following a bustling Thanksgiving that saw record sellouts for Lightning Lane passes, the holiday crowds are now gearing up for the equally packed Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

Walt Disney World Resort is renowned for its holiday magic, drawing thousands to events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park or Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The parks exude seasonal charm, with cooler weather adding to the festive atmosphere—a stark contrast to Florida’s typical sunny warmth.

However, winter weather can pose challenges, even in Central Florida. While Elsa may embrace the cold, it’s not always welcome for those on their Disney vacation. Following a six-day closure last week, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is once again shutting its gates on Thursday, December 12, 2024, due to another incoming cold front.

According to the official Blizzard Beach website, the park will not operate on December 12, with plans to reopen on Friday, December 13. Today, Wednesday, December 11, the park remains open, offering Guests a chance to enjoy signature attractions like Summit Plummet and Tike’s Peak from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The upcoming closure coincides with a significant cold front sweeping across Central Florida. “Behind the front, a cold air mass will settle in early Thursday morning, bringing temperatures down into the low to mid-40s across most of the area,” Click Orlando reported.

Some regions, particularly north and west of I-4, are expected to experience even colder conditions. “Although winds will die down overnight, there will be enough of a breeze to bring wind chill values into the 30s across most of the area,” the report continued. Wind gusts could reach up to 20 miles per hour by Thursday afternoon. While frost isn’t anticipated due to the breeze, it remains a possibility in more sheltered areas.

With these chilly conditions, it’s no surprise that Disney has opted to close Blizzard Beach temporarily. After all, even the magic of Disney’s snow-themed water park might not be enough to counteract those biting winds!

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
