The Mandalorian star Katee Sackhoff, who portrays Bo-Katan Kryze, has decided to shoot down fan hopes for the next season of the popular Disney+ Star Wars series.

The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ in 2019 as the first live-action series for the Star Wars series, as well as the Walt Disney Company’s first attempt to see whether fans would be on board with a non-feature film installment of the franchise. They were, and the show was an immediate hit with both audiences and critics, in large part due to Pedro Pascal‘s performance as the titular Din Djarin.

The chemistry between Din Djarin (often portrayed beneath the beskar armor by stunt double Brendan Wayne) and his foundling son Grogu, AKA Baby Yoda, was a huge selling point of the series in the first season, as was the expansion of the Star Wars universe from the Skywalker saga.

However, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni could only sustain that for so long before circling back to familiar territory, first introducing a live-action Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) in the second season as prep for her own solo series. Then The Mandalorian brought in even more Mandalorians, including Bo-Katan Kyze (Katee Sackhoff), and, finally, Luke Skywalker himself (Mark Hamill, sort of) to really freak out Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). At this point, the hope that there could someday be a Star Wars project that does not connect back to the original series seems to be lost.

The Mandalorian fans grew increasingly concerned that the show was sidelining Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin over the course of the third season, especially after executive producer Rick Famuyiwa commented that the show’s title didn’t necessarily refer to Pascal, but any member of the warrior race.

Given how much the third season of the show put Bo-Katan Kryze and Katee Sackhoff up front in the action, there has been much speculation that the upcoming fourth season of the show will essentially be about her character and feature Pedro Pascal as a side element (if at all, considering his very busy schedule). Sackhoff has tried to lay that particular notion to rest, but she also shot down another fan hope, that there would eventually be some kind of romantic relationship between Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin.

Speaking to The Direct, Katee Sackhoff said, “No, I think that there’s probably just as much speculation in the shipping of The Armor and Bo-Katan. I think that anytime you put a woman and a man on screen together, it’s bound to happen. I think that that’s just one of those things, that speculation that people enjoy. But no, nothing more than just joking around between myself and Brendan Wayne at work, so no.”

Reportedly, Katee Sackhoff and Brendan Wayne playfully “kiss” through their respective Mandalorian helmets during shooting, which seems to have been the genesis of fans shipping the two warriors. According to Sackhoff, that is all just playing around on set and not part of future storylines. Star Wars fans who want to see a little romance between them will have to let that dream die, apparently.

The Mandalorian season 4 does not yet have a release date.
