New Roller Coaster Replacing Decade-Old Attraction at Universal, Resort Confirms

Big changes are on the horizon for Universal Studios Hollywood, as the park has confirmed the closure date for one of its Fast & Furious attractions. The theme park announced that Fast & Furious–Supercharged, a key segment of the Studio Tour, will permanently shut down on March 10, 2025.

Universal shared the news on Instagram (@unistudios), writing:

“The ‘Fast & Furious–Supercharged' attraction on the Studio Tour prepares for its last ride on March 10, 2025, prior to the all-new, high-speed outdoor roller coaster ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift' opening in 2026. Be sure to experience it one last time before the attraction closes.”

For years, Fast & Furious–Supercharged has served as the high-octane grand finale to the Studio Tour, a tram-based attraction that offers behind-the-scenes access to working movie and TV sets. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the tour features iconic locations from classics such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and the eerie Bates Motel. Supercharged puts guests in the middle of an action-packed 3D-HD chase alongside Vin Diesel's Dom, Hobbs, Letty, and the Fast & Furious crew, complete with wraparound screens and thrilling stunts.

The closure paves the way for Universal Studios Hollywood’s newest thrill ride, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. Set to open in 2026, the upcoming coaster will be the park’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster.

“The dynamic new thrill ride, themed to Universal Pictures’ blockbuster film saga, Fast & Furious, will elevate the guest experience with innovative and technological achievements never previously employed in a roller coaster,” NBCUniversal stated in a 2024 press release.

“The state-of-the-art ride system is being uniquely designed to immerse guests within the high-speed Fast & Furious universe,” the statement continued. “Highlights will include groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles as they rocket along an elaborate track meticulously constructed with sound reduction technology for a breathtaking, superior experience. These attributions will create a seamless sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds.”

The removal of Fast & Furious–Supercharged is part of Universal Destinations & Experiences’ wider expansion plans. The Comcast-owned company is investing heavily in new attractions across its parks, including the 2025 opening of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida, as well as two new destinations in the U.S.: Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, and Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas, Nevada. The latter is scheduled to open its doors on August 14, 2025.

Universal Kids Resort, while yet to announce an opening date, will include seven themed lands inspired by hit franchises, such as Shrek, Puss in Boots, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Jurassic Park: Camp Cretaceous, Trolls, Minions, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Meanwhile, Epic Universe will expand Universal Orlando Resort with immersive new areas, including Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Ministry of Magic.

As Universal continues its rapid expansion, other longstanding attractions are also making way for new experiences. Universal Studios Florida is bidding farewell to Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, while Universal Studios Hollywood prepares to retire Supercharged. Fans of the Fast & Furious ride have until March 10, 2025, to experience it one last time before the park speeds ahead with Hollywood Drift.
