If you have a Walt Disney World vacation booked for October 2026, there's a little extra homework to do before you lock in your park days. The crowds aren't what will trip people up this month–the calendar is.
Between a private convention event, a runDisney race weekend, and Halloween party nights, three of the resort's four theme parks will operate with altered hours or restricted access at some point in October. Disney's Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom are all affected, each for a different reason. That leaves Disney's Animal Kingdom as the only park keeping its regular schedule for the full month, with the exception of Extended Evening Hours for eligible Deluxe Resort guests.
Here's a park-by-park look so you can plan around the changes instead of running into them.
Magic Kingdom: Party Nights Cut Regular Days Short
Let's start with the park most October visitors will notice. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns on select evenings, and on those nights, guests without a party ticket need to exit Magic Kingdom by 6 p.m.
There are 16 party dates this October: October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31. That's more than half the month, so there's a strong chance that at least one of your planned days lands on a party night. The party begins at 7 p.m. and features exclusive entertainment, including Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks. If you were hoping to grab a ticket, the event has sold out.
For day guests, that means Magic Kingdom's standard nighttime lineup, including Happily Ever After and Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, is off the table on party nights. If ending your day in front of Cinderella Castle is a must, schedule your Magic Kingdom evening on a non-party date.
Hollywood Studios: Early Close on October 20
On Tuesday, October 20, Disney's Hollywood Studios closes to regular guests at 5 p.m. The park usually stays open until 9 p.m., so that's four hours of evening time gone. Mornings are unaffected, with Early Theme Park Entry at 8:30 a.m. and general admission from 9 a.m.
The early close is tied to the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026, held at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin from October 19 to 22. A private event takes place inside the park from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., so regular guests need to be out well beforehand.
Private events are common at Walt Disney World, but this one takes a big bite out of the day. If you were counting on riding Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or Twilight Zone Tower of Terror after dark, pick another night. Park Hopper ticket holders have an easy workaround: spend the morning and early afternoon at Hollywood Studios, then head to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, or Animal Kingdom, all of which stay open later that day.
EPCOT: Two Late Mornings for Wine & Dine
EPCOT's changes come at the start of the day. On October 23 and October 25, the park opens to regular guests at 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m., with Early Theme Park Entry running from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on both mornings.
Both dates fall during Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. The Wine & Dine 5K takes place on October 23, and the half-marathon follows on October 25. With runDisney courses winding through and around the park, EPCOT will be the last Disney World park to open on each of those days.
One hour may not sound like much, but it adds up. Getting to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Frozen Ever After, or Test Track early is a go-to strategy for beating the lines, and a later opening means more guests arriving at the same time. If EPCOT is on your plan for either date, consider starting at another park or enjoying a slower resort morning.
Circle October 23 and 25 on Your Calendar
Here's where it gets tricky. On October 23 and October 25, EPCOT's late opening overlaps with a Magic Kingdom party night, so EPCOT won't open until 10 a.m., and Magic Kingdom closes to regular guests at 6 p.m.
If your favorite approach is to rope-drop EPCOT and finish at Magic Kingdom, those two days will squeeze that plan from both ends. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom may give you the most breathing room, though plenty of other guests will likely have the same idea.
