As Disneyland Resort gears up for its highly anticipated Holiday Season, guests are noticing a surprising shift: shorter operating hours. Historically known for extending its schedule during peak holiday periods to accommodate larger crowds and seasonal events, Disneyland is instead opting to close its gates earlier this year—by as much as an hour earlier at Disneyland Park and up to three hours earlier at Disney California Adventure.
According to Theme Park IQ, who shared a screenshot of the updated schedule, Disneyland Park will close at 11 p.m. on the Holiday Season’s opening day, while Disney California Adventure (DCA) will close even earlier at 9 p.m. In past years, Disneyland often remained open until midnight during the festive period, particularly on weekends and holiday-adjacent days.
“This is very odd as past years Disneyland during the Holiday Season has always had midnight closing times,” Theme Park IQ noted in their post.
While these new hours may not seem drastic on paper, longtime guests and annual passholders are expressing concern—and frustration—over what they see as a growing trend: fewer hours, fewer perks, and higher costs.
Early Closures Began Earlier This Year
This isn’t the first time shortened hours have become a talking point. Back in August, Disneyland Resort implemented a noticeable shift in its operating schedule. Beginning August 31, both parks began closing earlier than they had been throughout the summer.
At that time, Disneyland Park moved to an 11 p.m. closing time, while DCA began shutting its gates at 9 p.m.—a trend that has carried into the fall and now appears to be extending into the holidays.

What the Reduced Hours Mean for Guests
For many visitors, especially those making one-time or seasonal trips to the resort, the earlier closings may have a real impact on how much they can accomplish during the day. Is There a Reason for the Cutbacks?

Attendance typically spikes during weekends and the final weeks of December, but early November and weeknights during the holidays often see softer crowds. Adjusting hours helps Disney better match staffing and operational costs to demand.
2. Event Interference
Hard-ticketed events like Oogie Boogie Bash already result in early closures at DCA on select nights throughout the fall. Later in the season, similar events may return, further limiting general park hours.
3. Staffing and Budgeting
Theme parks across the country continue to face hiring challenges, and Disney may be managing labor schedules carefully. Keeping parks open late into the night requires extensive staffing for attractions, food and beverage, custodial, entertainment, and security.
Growing Frustration Over Value for Cost
While early closures are not new, the timing is frustrating for many guests who feel that recent increases in admission prices, Genie+ costs, and add-on services should guarantee more—not less—access.
One guest was quoted saying online:
“Prices go up, what you get goes wayyyyy down.”
Many visitors echo this sentiment, pointing out that fewer hours to enjoy the parks—especially during what used to be considered “peak season”—makes the cost of admission feel harder to justify.
