One Year Later, Disney Reverses Liberty Square Decision

Big changes are underway at Magic Kingdom as Frontierland and Liberty Square prepare for exciting transformations. But amid all the large-scale updates, it’s the return of a beloved snack that has guests cheering—and heading straight to Liberty Square’s Sleepy Hollow.

Just steps away from the Haunted Mansion and offering stunning views of Cinderella Castle, Sleepy Hollow has long been a go-to for unique Disney bites. Known for its rotating menu of delicious offerings, this charming spot is once again in the spotlight.

As of June 11, 2025, guests can celebrate the Fresh Fruit and Chocolate-Hazelnut Waffle Sandwich, as well as the Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich, both now officially back with their iconic circular waffle. According to reports, including one from Kenny the Pirate, this welcome return marks the reintroduction of the circular waffle, which had previously been retired in favor of Mickey-shaped versions. While tasty, the Mickey waffles never quite filled the same role for fans of the classic sandwich.

When the original fruit waffle was removed last year, it caused quite a stir among longtime parkgoers. The updated version that followed—a Mickey-shaped waffle served with berries (guests had to purchase a separate menu item if they wanted bananas too)—left some longing for the original. Then came a new twist: a Mickey waffle topped with chocolate-hazelnut spread, bananas, berries, and whipped cream. While it paid homage to the original, it still wasn’t quite the same.

That’s what makes this week’s menu update so special. The return of the iconic circular waffle restores a fan-favorite snack that many have been missing, and it’s a sign that Disney is tuning in to guest feedback. The full menu for Sleepy Hollow can be found on the official Disney World website.

Sleepy Hollow has been a quiet star in Liberty Square for years, offering crowd-pleasers like funnel cakes, hand-dipped corn dogs, and even a Princess Tiana souvenir sipper in celebration of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opened just around the corner in Frontierland last summer.

Speaking of Frontierland, major changes are just around the bend. Announced recently, Magic Kingdom will soon welcome Piston Peak National Park, a new land inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Cars. This expansion, part of the major overhaul and “Beyond Big Thunder” project, will bring fresh storytelling and immersive theming to the area.

To make way for this development, Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and the Liberty Belle Riverboat will officially close on July 7, 2025. While some fans are understandably sentimental about these departures, Disney is working to ensure that the new land blends seamlessly into the theme of the American frontier using a design philosophy called “Parkitecture.”

Beyond Magic Kingdom, changes are coming to other areas of Walt Disney World Resort as well. Monsters, Inc. will take center stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, featuring the resort’s first-ever suspended roller coaster. And yes, a long-awaited Disney Villains land is finally on the horizon, giving guests the chance to explore a darker, thrilling side of the Disney story.

In the midst of these massive changes, it’s the smaller moments—like the return of a treasured treat at Sleepy Hollow—that remind us how Disney magic lives in both the grand gestures and the little details.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
