Universal Orlando Resort has built an entire reputation on reinvention. The company rarely hesitates to retire aging attractions if it believes a newer franchise has stronger long-term appeal. Over the years, guests have watched classic rides disappear in favor of bigger intellectual properties, and while fans do not always love those decisions, Universal usually moves forward anyway.
Universal Studios Florida once leaned heavily on old-school movie attractions and practical effects. Then the resort slowly shifted toward major franchises. Back to the Future: The Ride became The Simpsons Ride. Jaws disappeared for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion. Disaster! eventually turned into Fast & Furious: Supercharged. That pattern has repeated itself again and again throughout the resort’s history.
Now, many fans believe Jurassic Park could be next.
With multiple closures now underway at Islands of Adventure, speculation has exploded that Universal may finally be preparing to embrace Jurassic World fully.

Jurassic Park Still Feels Different From Newer Universal Lands
Even today, Jurassic Park remains one of the most immersive areas at Islands of Adventure. The land still feels deeply connected to Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 film, from the giant gates at the entrance to the tropical jungle atmosphere spread throughout the pathways.
The area also remains packed with attractions and experiences. Jurassic Park River Adventure still anchors the land as its signature water ride. Guests can also explore Camp Jurassic, visit the Discovery Center, ride Pteranodon Flyers, and stop by the dinosaur-themed midway games. Then, of course, there is VelociCoaster sitting directly in the middle of everything.
That combination gives the land an interesting identity. It still carries the classic Jurassic Park aesthetic while also housing one of Universal’s biggest Jurassic World attractions.
And that contrast is becoming harder to ignore.

River Adventure’s Long Closure Has Fans Suspicious
The biggest talking point right now is Jurassic Park River Adventure.
Universal confirmed the attraction would close for an extended refurbishment lasting most of the year. Honestly, the attraction needs work. Guests have spent years pointing out broken effects, stiff animatronics, and dinosaurs that barely moved during parts of the ride.
A major refurbishment was inevitable.
Still, the timing immediately sparked rumors about something bigger.
Universal Studios Hollywood already transformed its version of the attraction into Jurassic World – The Ride years ago. That updated version added modern effects and shifted heavily toward the newer films starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
As a result, many fans quickly assumed that Islands of Adventure could eventually follow the same path.
Universal has remained quiet about exactly what the refurbishment includes. Some reports claim the ride is mainly receiving repairs rather than a full retheme, but the lack of details has only increased speculation online.
Even if the attraction returns in November as Jurassic Park River Adventure, many fans believe a Jurassic World conversion could still happen later.

Thunder Falls Terrace Adds More Fuel to the Rumors
The closure of Thunder Falls Terrace only added more fuel to the conversation.
Universal recently confirmed the restaurant would close, and rumors quickly surfaced that it may reopen as Hammond’s, a dining location inspired by Jurassic World.
For longtime fans, the Hammond name immediately stands out because of John Hammond, the founder of Jurassic Park in the original film, portrayed by Richard Attenborough.
The “Hammond’s” restaurant concept later became a real location at Universal Studios Beijing. If Universal brings that same concept to Islands of Adventure, it would dramatically shift the visual tone of the entire area.
Right now, Thunder Falls Terrace still fits perfectly into the older Jurassic Park atmosphere with its rugged tropical look. A sleek Jurassic World-style restaurant would completely modernize that section of the land.
And once those visual updates begin, the rest of the land can suddenly start feeling outdated by comparison.

Universal Continues Pushing Jurassic World Forward
One major reason fans believe these rumors is that Universal continues investing heavily in Jurassic World as a brand.
The first Jurassic World film became a huge success in 2015, reviving the franchise for a new audience. Since then, Universal has continued building around the property through sequels, merchandise, and theme park additions. The latest film starring Scarlett Johansson arrived in 2025, proving the studio still sees major value in the franchise.
VelociCoaster also plays a huge role in this conversation.
The coaster has become one of the most popular attractions at Universal Orlando Resort. Fans love everything about it, from the queue interactions featuring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard to the intense launches and inversions throughout the ride itself.
It already feels like Jurassic World completely took over one section of Jurassic Park land.
That is why the recent closures feel so important.

Jurassic World May Eventually Take Over the Entire Land
Universal has not officially confirmed a complete Jurassic World retheme for Islands of Adventure. Jurassic Park River Adventure may reopen mostly unchanged, and Thunder Falls Terrace could become something entirely different from Hammond’s.
Still, the overall direction feels difficult to ignore.
Universal has repeatedly shown it will modernize older lands when newer franchises become more valuable. Jurassic World continues to perform well for the company, and VelociCoaster has already established the brand within the land itself.
For longtime fans, that possibility creates mixed emotions. Jurassic Park still carries a nostalgic charm that newer lands simply cannot recreate.
But Universal’s history makes one thing very clear: if the company believes Jurassic World represents the future, it probably will not hesitate to fully transform the land eventually.
