Reminder: EPCOT Is Changing Park Operations on March 1, Here is What You Need to Know

EPCOT will change its operating hours on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The park will open at 10 a.m., with Early Entry for eligible Disney resort guests starting at 9:30 a.m., both an hour later than usual. This change is due to the Disney Princess Half Marathon, which requires clear routes for runners, necessitating operational adjustments across the property. Expect delays and road closures throughout the morning. If you planned to arrive for rope drop at 9 a.m., you'll need to adjust your expectations.

What the Actual EPCOT Schedule Looks Like

EPCOT opens to all guests at 10 AM on March 1. That's it. That's the baseline everyone needs to understand. If you don't have Early Entry access through a Disney resort hotel or eligible partner hotel, you literally cannot enter EPCOT before 10 AM no matter what time you show up. Arriving at 9 AM thinking you're being strategic just means you're standing outside for an hour watching other people who have Early Entry go in while you can't.

For guests with Early Entry access, the modified schedule lets you enter at 9:30 AM for 30 minutes of access to select attractions before the park opens to everyone. That's way less than the typical hour of Early Entry you get on normal days, and it starts a full hour later than the usual 8:30 AM window. If you're used to maximizing Early Entry by showing up at 8:15 AM and being ready to go, that entire strategy gets thrown out on March 1.

Traffic Is Going to Be a Disaster

The road closures for the half marathon on March 1 will create significant traffic congestion throughout Disney property. Routes that usually take 10 to 15 minutes may take 25 to 30 minutes or more due to detours. If you're driving from a resort or off-property, plan for extra travel time to avoid missing Early Entry.

Disney transportation, such as buses, monorail, and Skyliner, will also face delays due to rerouting, disrupting normal traffic patterns. If you plan to use Disney transportation to reach EPCOT for the 9:30 a.m. Early Entry, leave much earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.

EPCOT Crowds Hit Different

The 10 a.m. opening time might actually work better for some people who don't like waking up super early on vacation. But here's the thing: the later opening means literally everyone enters EPCOT at the exact same time instead of crowds building gradually throughout the morning like they do on normal days.

On a typical day when EPCOT opens at 9 a.m., guests trickle in over the first hour as different groups arrive at different times. On March 1, with the 10 a.m. opening, everyone who planned to arrive early converges at once, creating more intense initial crowding and causing attraction wait times to spike much faster than they normally would after rope drop.

Just Visit EPCOT a Different Day

If you have any flexibility whatsoever in your park schedule during your Walt Disney World trip, seriously consider visiting EPCOT on literally any other day with regular operating hours and using March 1 for Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, or just a resort relaxation day. Those other parks should all maintain normal hours on March 1, making them way better choices for that specific day.

If March 1 is your only possible EPCOT day during your entire trip, fine, but understand the modified schedule and plan accordingly instead of wasting time showing up when the park isn't even open yet. Adjust your morning plans, build in way more travel time than normal to account for traffic disasters, and set realistic expectations about crowd levels since everyone's entering in a compressed timeframe.

The Bottom Line

EPCOT opens at 10 AM on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Early Entry is 9:30 AM for eligible guests. Roads are going to be closed for the half marathon causing traffic problems. Disney transportation is going to be delayed. Everyone enters at once so wait times spike immediately. If you can visit EPCOT any other day during your trip, do that instead. March 1 is going to be a logistical mess for anyone who doesn't know about the schedule change ahead of time, and now you know, so adjust your plans accordingly.
