Disney World Issues Closure Notice for Magic Kingdom, Effective Tomorrow

If Magic Kingdom Park is on your Walt Disney World Resort itinerary for Wednesday, May 13, consider this your warning: the original Central Florida Disney park is closing early tomorrow.

Magic Kingdom Park will shut its doors to regular guests at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, nearly four hours before its typical closing time. The early closure is the result of a full park buyout by the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Conference, which has reserved the entire theme park for a private evening event headlined by a live Dave Matthews Band performance. Guests spotted Disney cast members setting up a stage near Cinderella Castle on Monday.

Tickets to the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Conference — which are now sold out — carried a price tag ranging from $1,699 to $2,399, covering the full conference experience and admission to the Magic Kingdom buyout.

The 5:30 p.m. cutoff means that daytime visitors will be cleared out well before Magic Kingdom Park's nighttime entertainment gets underway. Any performances of the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away electrical parade and the Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular on Wednesday evening will be exclusively for SAP conference attendees. Regular Walt Disney World Resort guests will not have access to either show.

How To Make the Best of It

The right move tomorrow depends on what kind of Walt Disney World Resort ticket is in your pocket. For guests holding Park Hopper tickets, Wednesday actually presents a quiet opportunity: reduced hours tend to keep crowds lighter than usual during the day, making it a solid window to knock out Magic Kingdom Park attractions with shorter wait times before hopping to EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, or Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park for the evening.

Single-park ticket holders are better served by skipping the Magic Kingdom altogether tomorrow and directing their admission toward one of the other three Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, all of which will be operating on full schedules.

One more thing to keep in mind: Thursday, May 14, is likely to be busier than average at Magic Kingdom Park as guests who skipped Wednesday return. Longer waits, fuller walkways, and tighter dining availability are all reasonable expectations for the day following the buyout.

Walt Disney World Resort publishes its park hours on the official website and through the My Disney Experience app. A quick check before any park day remains the simplest way to stay ahead of situations like this one.
