The future of Rey Skywalker in live-action storytelling remains uncertain, with her long-planned standalone film still facing ongoing development challenges.
Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the project is set approximately 15 years after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and is expected to follow Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order.
But despite early announcements and continued fan interest, the film has yet to secure a release date and remains outside Lucasfilm’s confirmed production slate.

Even so, Rey—portrayed by Daisy Ridley—has remained one of the most consistently visible characters in modern Star Wars storytelling.
Since her debut in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), she has continued to appear across a wide range of media, including video games such as Star Wars: Battlefront II, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Disney Infinity 3.0.
She has also featured in animated projects like Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and more recent LEGO Star Wars entries, maintaining her presence beyond the theatrical releases.

At the same time, Rey remains embedded in Disney’s physical theme park offerings, including Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, where she plays a central role in the Resistance storyline experienced by park guests.
That continued visibility has now extended into Fortnite, where a new Star Wars event is currently underway.
The crossover event integrates characters, environments, and vehicles from the franchise into the game’s evolving Battle Royale, with Rey featured prominently in the official trailer:
Looking ahead, Lucasfilm’s upcoming slate continues to move forward with two confirmed theatrical releases. The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) releases on May 22, continuing the era of the Disney+ series on the big screen after seven years.
Next year, the standalone film Star Wars: Starfighter (2027), directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is set for release on May 28.
For now, while Rey’s cinematic future remains uncertain, her presence across games, animation, and Disney Parks ensures she remains firmly embedded in the modern Star Wars landscape.
