Hanks will be portraying the inventor who creates the classic puppet alongside an all-star cast including, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (known for his role in the Netflix series, The Haunting of Bly Manor, 2020) as the voice of Pinocchio.

Additional Cast Members include Cynthia Erivo as The Blue Fairy, Joseph Gorden Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Keegan-Michael Kay as Honest John, Luke Evans (known as Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast (2017) as the Coachman, and Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull. (If that last character does not sound familiar, it’s because Sofia the Seagull is an all-new character created just for this new live action remake of the story.)

This new retelling of the classic Pinocchio story uses the writing talents of Zemeckis and Chris Weitz, the creative team behind Disney’s live-action Cinderella (2015), which is widely considered Disney’s best live-action remake by fans despite reception of these type of remakes being mixed in recent years.

Pinocchio (2022) was originally announced as an upcoming project in 2015, so Disney fans around the world will certainly be interested in checking it out when it is released on Disney+. No set release date has been confirmed yet other than December 2022, but we could expect that fans will be able to check it out by the arrival of the holidays.

Pinocchio is joined by other upcoming live-action Disney films, including The Little Mermaid which wrapped filming last year and will be released in theaters across the country on May 26, 2023.

We will keep you updated here on Disney Fanatic with additional updates on Disney’s Pinocchio as well as other new live-action film projects from the company.
