Unless you have some crazy reason why staying on Disney property isn’t a good idea, (like your sister happens to live in Orlando for instance) I always suggest staying on Disney property. Sure, some offsite hotels can be cheaper, but they lack the Disney magic and theming that the onsite hotels have, and if your vacation is focused around Walt Disney World it is a huge convenience to have Disney cast members around your resort to help. There are also a number of perks that only resort guests can take advantage of, such as complimentary transportation to and from the theme parks and the Orlando International Airport, and Extra Magic Hours, when the parks stay open later or open earlier on select days for resort guests only.
