Disney is continuing to step back from Kylo Ren as it reshapes its Star Wars strategy across film and theme parks. The latest change affects one of the franchise’s most visible physical spaces: Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
The decision follows the recent shelving of a planned solo movie centered on the character. Together, the moves suggest Disney is narrowing how — and where — Kylo Ren appears.
For fans of the sequel trilogy, the shift has been gradual but consistent.
Kylo Ren’s Film Plans Stall
In late 2025, Adam Driver confirmed that a standalone Kylo Ren film had been halted. The project, titled The Hunt For Ben Solo, had advanced through development.
According to Driver, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman paused the film due to uncertainty over the character’s survival following Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
The movie reportedly had a script and a budget and was nearing an official announcement before being stopped. Disney has not commented publicly on whether the project could be revived.
Kylo Ren's story concluded in The Rise of Skywalker with Ben Solo sacrificing himself to save Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. That ending has made future storytelling around the character more difficult without revising canon.
Introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Kylo Ren served as the sequel trilogy’s initial antagonist. His arc evolved across three films directed by different creative teams.
Audience reaction was mixed. Some viewers criticized the character’s frequent defeats and fast redemption. Others responded positively to his internal conflict and emotional complexity.
Since the sequel trilogy ended, Disney has largely focused new Star Wars projects on the original trilogy and earlier timeline periods.
Galaxy’s Edge Moves Away From the Sequels
That shift is now reflected in the parks. Disney confirmed earlier this week that Kylo Ren will be removed from Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Park.
When Galaxy’s Edge opened, it was set strictly between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Characters and storylines were limited to that timeframe.
Disney is now ending that restriction. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will begin featuring characters from the original trilogy, including Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Darth Vader.
Darth Vader is expected to appear on Batuu as part of original trilogy–era storylines. Because Kylo Ren was born years after Vader’s death, Disney has opted not to include both characters in the same setting.
As a result, Kylo Ren will no longer appear in spontaneous character encounters within Galaxy’s Edge, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Remember like 4 weeks ago when the entire internet was rallying behind a Ben Solo movie and Disney's response is to….. remove Kylo Ren from Disneyland,” wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.
Another added, “I don’t see any reason to get rid of Kylo lol he was so fun.”
“A big f**k you to Disney today,” another wrote. “After months of fan outcry begging for The Hunt for Ben Solo, they decided to SHELVE Kylo Ren at the parks & announced that Galaxy's Edge will undergo an original trilogy makeover.”
Disney has confirmed that Kylo Ren will not disappear from Disneyland entirely. Beginning in April, the character will relocate to the Disney Visa character experience in Tomorrowland.
The move places Kylo Ren in a controlled meet-and-greet environment rather than a roaming role tied to Galaxy’s Edge storytelling.
Disney has not announced any new plans for Kylo Ren in film, television, or park experiences. For now, the character’s role appears reduced as the company refocuses on its most established Star Wars eras.
