Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance shut down at Disneyland Park on Tuesday for an indefinite refurbishment. The flagship Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction entered a maintenance period ahead of the major Batuu timeline transformation Disney announced earlier this month, with no confirmed reopening date.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Closure Precedes April Timeline Shift
Disneyland Resort closed Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance on January 20, 2026, for extended maintenance. The park’s website offers no reopening timeline and instructs guests to “check back” for updates.

The closure comes as Disney prepares for sweeping changes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort announced plans days ago to split Batuu between two eras—half the land will transition to the original trilogy timeline, while the other half will maintain its sequel trilogy setting. Disneyland Park implements the transformation on April 29, 2026. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will follow, but hasn’t confirmed a date.
What specific work Disney plans during the closure of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance remains unknown. Last January, Disneyland Resort finally repaired a broken cannon effect that had been out of service for over three years.
Oga’s Cantina Also Closed
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance isn’t the only Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge location undergoing refurbishment. Oga’s Cantina also closed on January 20 for general maintenance and likely aesthetic updates, in line with the timeline change.

The refreshed cantina backstory positions the bar as newly opened rather than an established venue. The iconic “Cantina Band” song from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) will be added to the music playlist. Oga’s Cantina is expected to reopen in early March 2026.
Additional Land Updates
First Order Cargo, the merchandise shop, will be replaced by Black Spire Surplus, described as “a military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the galaxy,” including items from the Galactic Civil War depicted in the original Lucasfilm trilogy.

Character appearances will expand significantly. Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader will meet guests throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when the timeline shift takes effect.
