Mike Wheeler, the group's designated “storyteller,” tells his friends a final tale about the survival of the “mage,” Eleven, suggesting she used Kali's powers to create an illusion of her death and escaped with her life. Whether the spinoff treats that survival as confirmed or continues the ambiguity is unknown from what has been reported so far.
Two pieces of context complicate the reported casting. First, Millie Bobby Brown told Seventeen she was ready to close this chapter of her career: “I'm very ready to say goodbye to this chapter of my life and open new ones up.” Her reported involvement in the spinoff has not been publicly confirmed by the actress. Second, Matt Duffer stated in a previous interview that some characters' journeys were definitively over. “The story of Eleven and Dustin and Lucas and Hopper, their stories are done here. Beyond Tales From '85, an untitled live-action project focused on the “briefcase rock” from the Season 5 finale is in development. The Broadway production of The First Shadow has been filmed for Netflix. A tie-in novel arrived shortly after the Season 5 premiere. The franchise has expanded into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and a second chapter in the multiplayer game Dead by Daylight.
