Since its publication in 1843, Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” has captivated readers with its timeless message about compassion and generosity. While the original story may feel a tad spooky for some, The Muppet Christmas Carol offers a lively take that’s perfect for audiences of all ages.

Even though there are countless adaptations of Dickens’ classic, including the faithful (and slightly eerie) 3D version starring Jim Carrey, it’s the Muppets’ rendition that truly stands out. With a cast led by Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge and beloved characters like Kermit and Miss Piggy, this adaptation remains a fan favorite.

Packed with sing-along classics such as “One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas” and “Thankful Heart”, the movie has brought holiday joy to audiences for decades. But if you’ve ever wanted to see The Muppet Christmas Carol with live music, you’re in luck!

This season, the movie is back on the big screen, accompanied by an orchestra that brings Miles Goodman’s enchanting score to life. Adding even more magic, this version features “When Love Is Gone”, a song omitted from the original U.S. release but now beautifully restored.

Disney+ calls this adaptation “merry, magical” with “love, laughter, and one of the most cherished stories of all time.” It follows the classic plot of “A Christmas Carol”, with Scrooge facing the consequences of his miserly ways, but with a Muppet twist that brings the story to life in a new, heart-warming way. Guided by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Scrooge finds redemption, helped along by Bob Cratchit (a charming Kermit the Frog) and his family.

“Tis the season for love, laughter and one of the most cherished stories of all time. Join Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and all the hilarious Muppets in this merry, magical version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale,” the official Disney+ synopsis reads, adding that “Michael Caine gives a performance that’s anything but ‘bah, humbug’ as greedy, penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge.” Those familiar with Dicken’s novella will know that “One fateful Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.” However, with a Muppets twist thrown in for good measure, “Together with kind, humble Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog) and his family, the Spirits open Scrooge’s eyes — and his heart — to the true meaning of Christmas.”
