Directions:
1. Start by making the royal icing for WALL•E and Eve’s face and body details. Add powdered sugar, meringue powder, vanilla extract, and water into the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Start mixing on low until incorporated and then beat on medium-high until stiff peaks form (around 5 minutes).
2. Separate the royal icing into 6 small bowls, then add 1 color into each bowl (grey, black, brown, green, and blue) and leave 1 white.
3. Add the icing to piping bags fitted with tips. Then, pipe the character features onto a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
4. Start off piping WALL•E’s eyes with white icing, then use grey to outline and black for the pupils. Create his eyebrows and hands using grey icing. Then, create the plant-filled boot using the brown and green icing.
5. For Eve’s face, use the black icing to pipe a half circle shape, and add her eyes with blue icing. Then, use the green icing to pipe circles and white for the leaf symbol.
6. Set these pieces aside to dry (approximately 1 hour).
7. Now it’s time to make the donuts! Preheat the oven to 350° F. Spray the donut pans with non-stick cooking spray or coat with melted butter. Set the pans aside.
8. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a smaller bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
9. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir together until no flour clumps remain and all the ingredients are combined. Try not to over mix the batter!
10. Add the batter to a piping or zip-top bag. Cut a corner off the bottom and pipe the batter into each cavity, filling 3/4 of the way. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes.
11. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan before inverting them onto a wire rack. Use a toothpick to loosen the sides of the donuts.
12. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. (If the glaze is too thick, add additional cream—about 1/2 teaspoon at a time—until the desired consistency is reached).
13. Divide the icing into 2 smaller bowls—1 yellow icing and 1 white icing. Then, dip the donuts into the icing on one side, lift, and let excess icing drip off. Place into refrigerator to set for about 10 minutes.
14. Carefully remove the royal icing pieces from the parchment paper and attach to form each character’s face. Use a small amount of white icing to stick the pieces onto the donuts.
