Cruising with Disney is an experience like no other. In fact, it’s so unique that there are things even seasoned cruisers will want to learn before heading out on an adventure with Disney Cruise Line. Knowing these things will help you plan your vacation and get the most out of every moment.
Ready to learn what’s so unique about a Disney Cruise, and what you need to know to have the time of your life during your vacation? In this article we will discuss the top things you need to know before setting sail with DCL.
Download the App
The Disney Cruise Line app is the perfect way to keep track of what’s happening on the ship from one day to the next. Additionally, the app has a nifty feature that allows you to communicate with other members of your party when cell signal is lost. Make sure you download this app before setting sail!
Characters Everywhere
Just as there are character meet-and-greets throughout the Disney parks, there are also characters on the Disney ships. In fact, there are some characters on the ships that are more difficult to find in the parks, and meet-and-greets happen regularly throughout each day.
For this reason, you’ll want to be sure to bring your autograph book and camera on board.
Dress-Up is Common
The only thing that makes a character meet-and-greet more fun is dressing up as that character. Dressing up is super common on Disney ships, and definitely makes the experience more exciting.
Whether you have a little princess who likes to dress up for dinner, a young pirate who’d like to wander the ship in his pirate garb, or a fun-loving spouse who wants to get into the spirit, dressing up is totally acceptable. Make sure to pack your costumes!
Fish Extender Gift Giving
Guests of Disney Cruise Line tend to have a love of magic—otherwise, they wouldn’t be on a Disney ship. For this reason, it comes as no surprise that these guests like to add to the magic by putting together gift exchanges.
These onboard gift exchanges involve joining a group for your specific sailing on Facebook. Each person is assigned an exchange group (called a “Fish Extender” group) and makes gifts for each person in their group. The gifts are then delivered to “fish extenders”, which are pocket organizers that people hang from the fish outside their stateroom doors.
This is tons of fun for people of all ages, and we definitely recommend joining a group!
