This Private Magic Kingdom Lounge Now Stays Open During the Worst Crowds

Evenings at Magic Kingdom are supposed to be one of the best parts of the day. The lights come on, the temperature finally starts to drop, and fireworks are on the horizon. In reality, that part of the day is often the hardest one to get through.

By early evening, kids are tired and hungry, parents are running out of patience, mobile order return times are backed up, and every bench and indoor space feels completely full. Families are trying to decide whether they can make it to fireworks or whether they should just call it a night.

For years, Magic Kingdom has offered very few good answers for guests who simply need a short break during that stretch of the day. Now Disney has quietly changed that for one group of visitors.

Disney Vacation Club has extended the operating hours of McKim’s Mile House, the DVC member lounge in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. The lounge now operates from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. each day instead of closing at 6:00 p.m. as it did previously.  That update may not sound dramatic, but the timing of those two extra hours is what makes it important.

Between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., Magic Kingdom is at its most physically and emotionally exhausting. Fireworks crowds begin stacking into walkways long before showtime, restaurants become overwhelmed, and ride wait times swing unpredictably. Every indoor space turns into a magnet for exhausted guests trying to cool off for a few minutes.

Until now, McKim’s Mile House closed right as all of that peaked. Now it doesn’t. That single change turns the lounge into a much more useful perk.

Inside McKim’s Mile House, guests get comfortable seating, complimentary soft drinks, Wi-Fi, charging cords upon request, and access to on-site Disney Vacation Club Member Services Advisors, all in a quiet, air-conditioned environment away from the crowds.

That combination becomes especially valuable in the early evening, when phone batteries are low, kids need a quiet reset, and parents just need a chair and cold air before continuing their night.

The lounge’s location also makes the timing of this change feel deliberate. McKim’s Mile House is located in Frontierland, not far from Tiana's Bayou Adventure.  That puts it directly in the path of fireworks crowd migration, dining traffic near Pecos Bill, and guests moving between major areas of the park.

Access remains limited to eligible Disney Vacation Club members and their guests. Entry is first-come, first-served, and guests must show a valid Membership Card and matching photo ID. Re-entry follows the same process.  Disney says the new hours give members more flexibility to visit the lounge in the evening as crowds thin out later in the day.

In practice, crowds do not really thin out during that window. They shift and compress around fireworks routes, dining locations, and headliner attractions. That makes this change feel less like a simple schedule tweak and more like an acknowledgment that evenings in Magic Kingdom have become harder to manage.

It is a quiet update.

But for the guests who use it at exactly the right moment, it could completely change how the rest of their night unfolds.
