2. A Lot Going On Upstairs
Now we change gears going from ecstatic to pure eerie as the Doom Buggy floats out of the ballroom, past the endless staircase, and up into the attic scene. Here, the rider finds perhaps the darkest area of The Haunted Mansion. In the Disneyland version, the guests are welcomed into the attic by the famous Hatbox Ghost, a ghastly grinning ghoul with a head-turning vanishing act. Both versions, however, play host to a much more sinister spirit. The attic is the lair of Constance Hatchaway, The Black Widow Bride. This phantom femme fatale brandishes an ax in her bridal bouquet, her weapon of choice for hacking her husbands. Her environment reflects the twisted nature of her character, with her creepy collection of headless portraits and sinister string of pearls. The attic is by far the creepiest scene in the mansion, but it is the perfect way to introduce the last scene.
